How do you drive an automatic vehicle. from the Parking gear do you progress from L, 2 then Drive gear or you just go in to the Drive gear straight away.

so many reasons can cause this issue,
1- rusty cable
2- burnt fuse
3- low battery voltage.
4- to manage the car and drive it to a service center, look near the gear selector, you will find a black plastic cover fixed on the front side of the lever, left side,
pull it and fix teh key inside and move the gear,

take straight to a repair shop before any more damage is done

it is most likely an automatic awd, 4 hi is full time 4 wheel drive, 4 lo is full time 4 wheel drive but at a very low gear ratio and should not exceed 25 mph or could cause damage. and DO NOT shift into 4 lo while vehicle is in motion. Auto is a 2 wheel drive but automatically engages into 4 wheel drive under heavy acceleration.

I suspect gears are arranged in the same manner as US-marketed vehicles, PRND21, with B and S representing a mid and low gear. Not sure where you are in the world or what the original market for the VITZ is, but the Yaris is sold in the US as well.

Please have a dealership that handles GM vehicles check to see if your vehicle was involved in what the trade considers a run away transmission condition involving the automatic transmissions parking pall linkage defecting thus allowing the transmission to go into drive while the vehicle is idling in park.

It can be either the shift cable or the Automatic parking brake release.
With your vehicle stalling it sounds like the parking brake release is leaking vacuum and causing stalling.

You can check with Autozone or Oreillys to see if there is an aftermarket part for that. Then locate the Auot release on your vehicle and when you take it off, slide the parts within the fixture to verify sticking.

Check the operation of the power steering system.
Check the power steer drive pump belt is ok,
Check fluid level of Pwr steer pump is ok.
No oil leaks should be evident on the power steer system.

Make sure the wiring harness to transmission is not damaged and remove wiring plug at transmission and check for damage. If no problem you will need to see a good transmission shop.

Step 1 Check the outside temperature. Start the vehicle. Drive at a normal pace for 15 minutes if the outside temperature is above 50 degrees. If the outside temperature is below 50 degrees, drive for an addition 10 minutes.

Park the vehicle in a safe location on a level surface. Place the gear selector in the Park position. Apply the parking brake. Leave the engine running.

Step 3 Place your foot on the brake pedal and apply pressure. Move the gear shift lever through each gear pausing 3-4 seconds at each location. Return the gear shift lever to the Park position.

Step 4 Allow the engine to run at idle for 3-5 minutes. With the engine still running, pull back on the hood release lever located under the dash to the left of the driver’s side. Lift the hood to its fully opened position.

Step 5 Locate the Automatic Transaxle fluid dipstick near the back of the engine. It will have a red loop handle. Grasp the red loop handle and pull the dipstick straight out.

Hello, a sidenote on how new your car is I would not worry about checking your transaxle fluid at the current time. You do the above following information to check your fluid and a good rule of thumb is to not work under a car while it's running. You can check the level by the old forefinger or pinky trick and if you can feel the fluid in the transaxle with your finger the level is fine. I would highly recommend however to check your fluid with your dipstick. If your vehicle does not have one you will have to run through the steps above and check the fluid with a mirror so you do not burn your fingers. I hopes this information solves your problem. Also a sidenote, dealerships have recalled your vehicle for a transaxle leak if yours is leaking do the check above and tighten the fill plug to a torque specification which can be found in a Haynes or Chilton Auto Repair Manual. If your vehicle is under warranty I would have your dealership correct this maintenance issue for you.
Wipe the dipstick clean with the rag or paper towel. Insert the dipstick back into the reservoir. Wait 3-5 seconds. Pull the dipstick straight out.

Step 7 Observe both sides of the dipstick. Read the side with the lower level of fluid on the dipstick. If the fluid is in the crosshatched area the level is acceptable. Reinsert the dipstick into the reservoir and close the hood. If the level is below the crosshatched area, more fluid should be added to the automatic transaxle.

As far as I know the procedure should go something like this...

Stop the vehicle, engage the parking brake and if applicable, get out and turn the hubs on the front wheels from Free, to Lock.(You may not have these on a Suzuki, they may be auto-lockers)

Get back in the vehicle and put the transmission shift selector into Neutral.

If you have a manual transfer case, move the selector-shaft to 4x4-High, or 4x4-Low -- whichever is desired. Now, putting the vehicle in gear with the transfer case is sometimes somewhat difficult. As long as the vehicle's transmission is in neutral, don't worry, the gears inside the transfer case are big and beefy -- Don't be afraid to be rough -- Again as long as the transmission is in neutral. You may also have to disengage the parking brake and slightly let the vehicle roll forward or back with your foot-brake to get the Transfer case to lock into place.

Once 4x4 of the selected High, Or Low range is selected, usually indicated by the vehicle jerking slightly with a slightly loud clank/thud. Move the Transmission selector out of neutral into your desired gear (Drive if Automatic, if Manual, whichever gear you pull out from). and voila! You should now be in 4-Wheel-Drive.

To disengage 4-Wheel-Drive. Just reverse the steps.
