I have a 1996 dodge avenger with a coolant leak. It has the v6. It will operate fine for about 40 miles then the temp gauge will slow go up when im stopped and when im driving it will go back to halfway. When i checked the fluid it was very ow so i put coolant in and was able to drive about another 40 miles till the same thing happened again. Also if i rev the engine it will go back to halfway for a little bit then start to climb back up. I checked to see where the leak is coming from and i could actually see a place where it was leaking. i have never let the engine overheat all the way so i dont think it is the head gasket. What do you all think?

When I had this issue it was because the seal has worn or flattened so much in the water neck that it was leaking. Follow the upper hose to the engine which will go to the water neck. I replaced both the thermostat and the water neck and this fixed the leaking problem. But, you have to fully burp the system of all the air, otherwise, it'll keep overheating or get close to doing it.

SOURCE: 98 dodge caravan problems

I had the same issue with my dodge caravan and after several attempts by the dealer to fix it, it turned out to be a broken wire. They replaced the relay and it would work for a while and then go blank again. Have the wires checked thoroughly.

SOURCE: water leak and water in oil

Water in the oil is never a good sign. You need to have a cylinder leakdown and radiator pressure test done to confirm where the leak is. Sometimes though, the testing may be inconclusive. Either way, you need to have it torn down and checked/repaired. You cannot continue to drive it this way or it will relult in complete loss of your engine.

What kind of and how much oil do I put in my 5 speed trans 1996 dodge avenger 2.0 4 cly

Engine Oil not the trans right?
Should be 4.5 qts Capacity
The manual calls for 5w-30 but you can use 10w-30 if you have high miles and issues with oil leaking. Of course once you fill it, check your oil dipstick to make sure you have enough.

The temp gauge on my 2008 ram 1500 jumps from normal temp to hot checked engine the temp is fine my heater them puts out cold air and I have no heat if I shut heater off and wait a few minutes temp gauge...

It probably low on coolant. The heater will blow cold when there is not enough water (coolant) to keep the heater core full. Check the radiator (not the overflow reservoir) when it's cool.

98 Toyota camry temp guage slow to rise but car feels if overheating.

The slow rising temp gauge points to a thermostat which has failed and stuck open. This is easy to replace.

At the same time the gauge will tell you if the car is overheating.

Is it losing coolant at all? A hot smell can result from leaking coolant getting on the exhaust manifold.

The smell can also result when leaking engine oil gets onto the exhaust. Camrys of that era had several characteristic oil leaks

- from the rear of the cam cover, especially on a V6
-from the distributor shaft o-ring
-from the oil filter-to-engine block mounting adapter (if fitted)

My 97 cadillac deville over heated 1 time on the highway. after filling it with coolant i dont have any problems. why did it overheat that 1 time

if you are using coolant that is mixed 50-50 with water, the water will evaporate. If you are having issues and using straight antifreeze without a water mixture, you may have a small coolant leak or a small leak in the head gasket.

TEMP GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN. HAS NEVER DONE THIS IN 3YEARS ON MY 1996 DODGE AVENGER

try replacing thermostat, or possibly temp. sensor (should be near thermostat- threaded into block- prob 1 wire). most likely failing thermostat! make sure you get the correct replacement for it! some have different temp. ranges. 'opening' temp. should be stamped on rim of thermostat.
good luck!

97 dodge avenger-the tube behind water pump is

the dealer should be able to get these. you may have to remove the intake manifold or see what you have to remove in order to do the job. its not something an amateur should try to do. They usually leak because of poor maint, and degraded coolant. If its leaking, more cooling problems are likely on the way.
