I have a 2000 toyota celica gts...manual transmission.....and today while driving it kept on losing power. the radio and lights would go off and on very quickly. i was low on gas so i gave it some fuel.when i attempted to turn the car back on i got nothing. The car would not crank at all. There is absolute silence when i turn the key, you could hear the birds chirping(that's how silent it is) The lights and radio come on fine so i am thinking that the battery is good but there is nothing else happening. i even had the battery replaced just to rule it out and still nothing. i tested my fuses and they are all fine. i do not know how to test relays though. What could the problem be??...can someone who is a professional please help...could it be my starter,alternator,clutch switch,relay...disconnected wire?
Do you know how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? You need to check volt on the starter circuit , ignition etc... Anything that controls the starter , relay , ignition switch . First looking at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in starting the vehicle . You can find a wiring diagram at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter your vehicle info. year , make , model an engine . i paid a friend to do it because it's a lot of work! if you haven't already treid to or got it done just know that when my friend did it; it took him like 8 hours (he'd never done one on a celica, but had done them on american cars) so if your not familiar with it... not a good idea to do alone. I watched him do most, but i'm not the best to talk to about it.(plus i have a 2000GT) Some of the parts that i can remember that he took out to get to the clutch were the front driver's side tire, the axel on the same side, ....some other parts in there....and ALSO parts on top...the intake also had to be taken out just to have enough room to do the job. parts are cheap...just ask for a clutch kit at auto zone or whatever. around $150. another random tid bit that might help is make sure to tighten the engine mounts really good afterwards or else it will jump around in there when you turn it on and cut it off. buy gear oil before you start as well because you will need to put some in after the new clutch is in. i will need to put the car on a real lift... you need a lot of space underneath and on top to work. and most likely two people. well hope some of this helped.

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

as long as your volt meter is capable of measuring OHMS you can test wires, find the main power wire to the fuel pump and measure for voltage when you turn the key on(3-4 sec) if power is present at the fuel pump, and the pump don't run, then replace it

find the grounding point on the motor and either replace the wire end or clean the surface it bolts to

Check that both terminals on battery are clean and tight. Then ensure other end of small positive wire from battery and engine earth are clean and tight.
