2001 Hyundai Elantra When car is started it idles loudly & shakes. It drives very loud as well. When the accelerator is pressed, The engine reves very loudly & there is a popping sound under the engine. I do not belive it is the exhaust system, but rather the transmission. What might be making that sound?

SOURCE: accelerated clicking/knocking noise when i start driving
sounds like your CV joints are worn out. If the clicking noise gets worse when turning then its a definite possibility. Also check the CV joint boots for splits as this can quickly wear them out. The dust mixes with the grease to form a grinding paste.

SOURCE: Fuel Tank Loud Pop Sound On Shutdown
I haven't honestly ever heard any thing like this provided it is not a dieseling type effect in which you turn the key off and the engine still fires sporatically for a few seconds and you may have a pop through the exhaust. The only thing I could think to check which may cause this is your carbon/vapor canister which collects/absobs/dissipates excess fuel vapor from your fuel tank. I work primarily in chemical plants and petrochemical refineries and if a tank or pressurized vessal (reactor, tank, etc.) is not vented properly you will sometimes hear a loud popping noise as the fumes/vapors try to expand if there is an influx or increase in its ambient temperature which could relate to your vehicles exhaust system nearby heating it up. That is my best uninformed guess to be honest, let me know what it turns out to be if you would. I don't mind helping others , but I still try to learn more as well in the process.
