My chevrolet c1500 v6 vortec will not crank. I thought it may be fuel related so I took off the filter and discovered that it doesnt even pump from the tank to the filter. When I turn the key on I do not hear the pump even "hum". Could it be a relay or do u think the pump may be out?

Check all connections and fuses/relays to see if you have a power liss . If possible check for power as close to the pump first .

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Silverado Fuel System

Hello Johnholley
I am wondering do you hear the fuel pump when you just turn the key into the on run position not crank just in run and listen and see if you hear the fuel pump run for a second, If you don't hear it you will want to check for power at the fuel tank, and have some one cycle the key while your under the truck with a test light. Hopefully you have power and you hear the fuel pump run. Now if you do hear the fuel pump running then the next thing you will want to check is for spark, It could be the ignition module or pickup coil. check out those thing and I am sure you will be able to figure out whats going on. If you don't get back to me and we can try a few other methods. I sure hope that helps you out johnholley. and thanks for using Fix Ya Bear001

SOURCE: Installed new distributor in 97 Chevy Vortec V6

Check the wire harness to the Ignition control module (ICM) or replace it. It cost around $40,00 from Auto Zone and it's common for the ICM to fail, or it may just be starting to fail and it's also know that the OEM distributor had a screen vent at the bottom of the distributor for ventilation to prevent condensation from forming in the distributor. Check to make sure your new distributor has a vent and that it's not plugged up with shipping plastic. Condensation may be forming causing the misfire in the distributor. Good luck and keep me posted.

1996 chevy 4.3 v6 fuel pump keeps going out

If you have a Vortec V6 these engines require 60psi or more of fuel pressure to run. Some aftermarket fuel pumps are not up to the task.
Also, you did not say anything about changing the filter each time you changed the pump.
The symptom reflects a low pressure problem.
You need a gauge to check pressure when the new pump is installed and when the problem occurs.

HaVE A 96 1500 PICK UP WITH V6 VORTEC, GETTING ONTO FWY TRUCK DIED. NOW IT WILL CRANK OVER, HAVE SPARK AND FUEL TO CARB. WONT START. IF I POUR FUEL INTO CARB IT WILL RUN. ANYIDEAS IAM SITTING ON FWY NOW

Sounds like you lost a fuel pump, although they usually don't quit while being driven. Have it towed and get a fuel pressure check. That vehicle has to have very close to 60 psi fuel pressure to run. Have a new fuel filter installed also. Plugged fuel filters are the most common cause of fuel pump failure.

WANT STAY RUNNING

Get fuel pressure checked for your vehicle. If the fuel pressure is checked low then its fuel pump related problem. Also it can be clogged fuel filter. Also check the battery voltage. If its low then this problem is related to weak battery.Get the battery charged.A fully charged battery will show 12 volts. If the battery and fuel pressure both checked ok then it can be crank sensor or spark plug related problem.Get it checked by meter. Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a vortec v6 and it starts when it wants to. i changed the spark plugs, wires, coil, distributor, cap, and roter, checked the firing order, set it at one, nothing

You may need a intake manifold gasket. If it puts prestone in the cylinders then it will be a ***** to start. You also need to check check the fuel filter.
