Overdrive light on shift blinks off and on and

1995 XTL 4x4 Bronco. 351 engine. the overdrive light on shift blinks off and on and when the AT shifts into the next gear its feels like I am being re-ended. Shifts really hard. This problem is intermittent. At time I could go days and days with no problem, then all of a sudden it happens. The transmission fluid looks clean and no leaks. What could the problem be?

A blinking OD light means there is a problem with the electronically controlled transmission, you need the TCM module scanned for fault codes.

Your transmission fluid contain water, thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink. And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.

SOURCE: overdrive lockup

On the passenger side of the trans there are two servos.A servo is a steel piston with rubber lip seals bonded to the steel. The servo piston strokes in or out, applying or releasing a band. There are two servos, each hidden behind circular aluminum covers held into the case with snap rings. The rear servo actuates the 2nd gear band, and the front servo actuates the 4th gear,or O.D. band. The rubber lip seals on the servo pistons are soft and pliable when new,but with hot and cold cycles, and years of use,the rubber hardens and doesnt seal very well, causing loss of gears. It is very possible the servo has hardened, and that's why you are losing 4th.The other possible cause is electronic. This trans, the A4LD has 2 electrical solenoids inside the trans,4th gear solenoid and lockup solenoid. These are the ONLY electronics inside the trans, another possible problem area.I would remove the servos first for inspection, but before removal, take a scribe and scratch into the aluminum covers,"F" on the front one,and "R" on the rear one. These servos are different diameters, and MUST go back where they came out of.On the servo covers you will see cast into the covers 2 letters identifying the servo it requires....AB.....BB.....ZC...etc.These are examples, and yours will likely be AB and BB.If you DIY....use plenty of vaseline on the rubber lip seals, and the servo bores, to prevent cutting the new servo seals and O rings.Good luck.

SOURCE: Transmission Issues

The OD light flashes to tell u that there is a fault in the transmission, have a test run to get the trouble codes and we will go from there, Kragen and other parts stores do this for free.

SOURCE: hard shift and blinking overdrive

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.

SOURCE: 1995 jeep laredo overdrive is not shifting

Your overdrive should kick in at about 45mph, pretty much at or about 2000rpm. To see if it engaged, lightly touch the brake pedal and it will disengage. It should also disengage when you mash the pedal down to go into passing gear, and re-engage when conditions "normalize" again. You can tell that it has engaged because the tach will drop a few hundred rpms. If it's not doing this, a simple trans oil change (with filter) may correct the problem. OD is activated by a shift solenoid on the valve body that may be a bit gummed up.
95's show a shift control module on some diagrams I've seen, but not on others. I read this as a possible "half-year change" So you may or not have one. If you do, I'd check that as well!

Light by the Gear shift is blinking

Is the arrow flashing? This indicates a fault in the gearbox. If it is solid the gearbox is in winter mode or 1st gear. Try manipulating the controls to see if this changes this condition.
The blinking is telling you a code is stored in the computer. Take it to an auto-parts store and have it scanned most places do it for free. Then report back here with the code.
