My 2006 PT Cruiser has the same problem! When hot in the cab it won't start but after it is cool outside it starts up without missing a lick! When it is hot and you turn the key you get nothing but do have power to lights, radio, etc. weirdest thing ever and nobody knows why! We have had the ignition module replaced and have a new battery. This one has stumped everyone. Any suggestions folks?

It could be the neutral safety switch if it is an automatic transmission car. If it is a manual transmission car their is a safety switch in the clutch pedal. If these check out ok then check the starter solenoid

The lock cylinder in the steering column has to be changed. I have see these wear out.
To avoid having a new key combination for the ignition, when you go to the dealer and order new part, tell them that you want to have it in the same combination code as the original. You will have to loan them a copy of the key to have this done.
The last step is you will need someone who knows how to change the cylinder in the steering column. In many models of cars, this is an involved job.

Sounds like a short maybe. maybe the wire completely broke? if you know a technician, see if the fuel pump is even getting power when key is on

Sounds like the timing belt broke. Unfortunately this vehicle was not equiped with no contact valves so if that is the case you will need to have the engine and Head rebuilt. If the crank position sensor can't sense the position of the crank it should shutdown the electrical to keep you from damaging your engine.
