I'm changing the brake pads on my 2003 Town and Country and I'm hitting a snag. There are two rubber casings with what look like steel bolts coming out of them. I am fairly positive that is where the caliper bolts are but I have no idea how to get these two steel pieces off. Any Ideas?

The bolts require a torx adapter. See the video linked.

SOURCE: how do i compress the caliper piston on rear

you should have to turn in the caliper piston there is a special tool for this looks like a cube and has different notches on it for different cars, you can get it at like autozone for cheap $5 or less,,but you attach it to the extension and then a ratchet and turn the caliper in,,,,you ccan try to use a needle nose pliers to turn it in but thats not always easy,,turn it clockwise til it stops,,it will almost be flush with the housing

SOURCE: Replacing bulbs in tail lights in a Town and Country.

  1. Open your tailgate.
  2. Look for two (2) round flat black discs about the size of a dime (but thicker) on the inside of the body (between the red lens and the weather striping).
  3. Using a pair of pliers, pull out each of these two discs.
    • Note they are in tight and may require a fair bit of force to remove.
  4. Make sure the inner part of the disc also comes out. There are two parts to this system, a grommet and a plug:
    1. Push the plug backwards through the grommet.
      • The grommet fits into the actual hole in the body, and is spread by the plug, the pressure holding them in place.
    2. Carefully remove both grommet and plug.
      • The lens assembly will fall away from the vehicle when you pull out the second grommet so be careful.
  5. Note the wiring harness that connects to a plug inside. Beside that plug are two holders for the actual bulbs.
  6. Remove the holder by pressing the sides inwards and pulling. The light socket should come out.

Replacing the Rear Brake Pads

Process is typical except for the rotating (screw type) brake piston. You cannot just compress the brake piston with a C-clamp, you have to turn the piston back in. This is easily done with the correct tool (Rear Disc Brake Piston Tool). The tool I had needed to be slightly modified to fit Chrysler's pattern.

Most Auto Parts store like Auto Zone and Parts Source will have the tools for lone or you can buy the tool and keep it in your tool box and the price ranges from $12.00 to $50.00 depending on the brake tool as to universal or specific to the vehicle make. Good luck and keep me posted.

I replaced the brake pads on my 2008 Town and country and now my wheels have a huming noise. The brakes work very good with no pulling

There are a few solutions to this problem , the first thing i would do is check that the backing plate or dust sheild has not bent in to the rotor ,next check that all the bolts are secure...did you change just the pads or the rotors as well ,sometimes if you only change the pads it wil take some time for the new pads to seat properly although i have never had it described as a humming noise this may also be the case

I need to change front brake pads

You have two bolts to remove the caliper (it will still be attached to the flex hose). then use a C clamp to compress the caliper piston (one side on outside brake pad the other end on the back of the caliper). Inspect other components, replace pads and reinstall. I would highly recommend replacing rotors as well or at least having them turned. Its a pretty easy job if you have done similar jobs in the past.

How in the world do you change brake pads on a 2002 Town&Country

After supporting the vehicle safely.....With the wheel off you should see two bolts facing away from you near the top of each end of the caliper.
Remove these two bolts then pop the caliper up and off with a big screw driver or pry bar exposing the brake pads.
Do not remove the brake hose.
Replace pads....push caliper piston back into caliper and reinstall caliper and bolts.
Thread locker (liquid) should be applied to caliper bolts.
Caliper sliders....the parts the bolts go into .....should slide easily in calipers.
Push brake pedal a few times to restore pedal height before driving.

Rear brakes

I changed the rear pads this fall, have you removed the caliper retaining bolts and the Park Brake Cable? I remember the cable being a pain and using a large hammer and pry bar to loosen the caliper. You can pry on the edge of the pad and the hat section of the rotor. The rear rotors aren't expensive and should be done at the same time.
