Power (acceleration) loss at mid-high RPM only

1991 Buick LeSabre
3.8L V6 Engine

Initially started hearing excessive noise from engine bay only at mid-high RPM (don't have a tach, sorry). Noise sounds like an engine would at high RPM, but with a higher pitch - maybe like a small exhaust leak.

I found a small exhaust leak from the EGR valve gasket, but had to keep drving the car until i received the new gasket. While driving under more strenuous conditions i noticed a signifact loss in power especially at higher RPM. When I got to my destination I found that the EGR had broken (perhaps from the excessive heat produced by the gasket leak). So I replaced the EGR valve, and re-wired all of the corrosponding wiring (it had melted & fused together). Since then, I've done a tune-up as well.

So everything is functional again, but I'm still experiencing this increased pitch in engine noise, and acceleration loss at higher RPM.

Is it possible that while my EGR valve as damaged, which was for a duration of maybe 60 miles, my catalytic converter was damaged? Or any other ideas?

Loss of acceleration, the backpressure noise and such are kinda tell tale signs of that converter having problems, feel the exhaust out of the tailpipe it will be warm normally have someone step on the gas and if its super hot it'd be a step in the right direction.

Vehicle stalls when turning and at highway speed

Check motor mounts and transmission mount
Also check the air tube (TOP AND BOTTOM) for hairline crack.

A loss motor mount can cause excessive vibration and damage the air inlet tube.

2000 Impala high pitched squeal, not a pulley

It could be a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold or pipes Start engine and allow it to idle, spray some wd 40 or similar around the inlet manifold & vacuum pipes, if you notice a change in engine speed when you spray you will have found the area of the leak

sounds like a catalytic converter - runs good but lacks power - the back pressure keeps the engine from being able to accelerate under load - good luck :O)

Power loss + squeal @ 4500~ rpm

Could be the cat, They can make some pretty strange noises...Disconnect it and take it for a short ride and see if rpm's are fine (with it removed you probably won't be able to hear the noise though)

Slow acceleration, high rpm

This sounds normal to me! The engine will read that rpm when accerlerating lightly. It is the stall of the torque convertor. The oil pressure will always be higher when the rpm's are higher, or when the oil is thicker - cold.

Virbration? That is a different story. Oil won't cause that.

Hesitation on Acceleration or Uphill.

The knock is caused by either timing issue or a lean cylinder condition, have you checked the fuel pressure?? has the fuel filter been changed?? A bad knock sensor will not set a light unless it is open or disconnected.
