If the remote is generic you will need the factory remote to "clone" the signal to the new remote.
With your oem pontiac remote you may need to visit any GM service center to have the remote set to the cars receiver. There are literally 100,000 different variables GM uses to ensure one remote can't work the wrong car. A typical key programming will run you between $30-$60 depending on how much greed the technician has. Some good technicians will do this job for free simply to make a customer happy so you may wish to call around.

I just went through lots of troubleshooting and expense on my 1996. Whenever I would lift my foot off the accelerator and was below about 30 mph, the rpm's would starts jumping around and sometimes it would stall. If I gave it a little gas (accelerator), I could sometimes keep it running. It also backfired once in a while. Starts right back up. Also, if I let it idle while in part, it would die after 1-2 minutes.
I ended up finding a hole in the fuel regulator. About a ~$70 part if you get an AC Delco, but very simple to change.

I am having similar problem with the exact same aftermarket anti theft/keyless entry module. I bought the car not running because of the module. Took a look at all the wiring. Put it back together and it ran perfectly, let it sit for a few days and the alarm went off randomly a couple times. Today I went to Unhook it all so it would stop randomly setting the car alarm off, and now I am back to no power to the key. Hoping I can get the car back to factory wiring under the dash, does anyone know how to get my
