If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

You can reset by disconnecting the battery for 5-10 mins. You can also have a garage reset it. If the issue remains, the light will come back on again

Reset check engine light 2006 explorer

Once the problem that caused the engine light to come on is repaired the light will go off. Resetting it without a repair will not keep it off.

How to reset check engine light?

Go to your local O'Rielly's or Autozone. They will tell you the code and reset it for free. Otherwise take the negative battery cable loose for about 10 min. This will clear the ECM, but you won't know what tripped the light! Best Wishes, TJ

1997 ford contour 4 cylinder transmission shift real hard transmission oil level is to much overdrive light flashes sometimes ,aLso when its not shifting right it sounds like the motOr is racing

the racing you hear is most likely a slipping in the transmission. in terms you may understand is this, you're giving the car gas,but the gas does'nt work, you hear the engine roaring, but slow motion?if this is the case, you may need a transmission fluid filter and fluid change, this may help.depending on how long the problems been going on. 3.0 engines are really good motors.but the transmissions behind the engine demand clean fluid, filter. is your check engine light on? the hard shift tells me somethings wrong already.you may only have a bad speed sensor. suggest you move towards the speed sensor. if the chck engn lghts on. do what i described above. if not,no light on,suggest you reset your computer by disconnecting the positive cable from your battery for 10minutes.this will reset the whole system and keep in mind that any existing problems will keep arising. good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.com

When you start the motor the engine check light keep on not going off. How to reset

the check engine can be reset by disconnection of the NEGATIVE battery cable for 5 minutes or ask a local Kragen or Autozone parts store to reset the light, they will do this for free as well as read the fualt code that is stored in the memory of the engine/emission system control computer whenever the light is turned on, just tell them you would like a OBD2 fault code test, PLEASE.

1996 gmc k1500 4x4 5.7 vortec motor no start keep

Replace the coolant sensor on the front of the intake manifold. The coolant sensors on this engine does go bad and wont set a check engine light. The sensor will read about -32 to 0 degrees when they do go bad. The computer thinks it is that cold and sends tons of fuel to the engine. If you try to start the engine with the throttle depressed to the floor it puts the fuel system in clear flood mode and wont fire the injectors. Engine will start then and run very rich. The coolant sensor has two wires on it and sometimes you need to replace the wiring pigtail going to it as the sensor can seep coolant into the connector and corrode the terminals. All the parts are available at pepboys and autozone or napa. Good luck
