1997 toyota v6 xle camry is running rough and noisy..the system exhaust pipes are severly
rusted on connecting ends..can they be patched
or should the system be replaced e.g.muffler pipe
and intermediate pipe and if so what kind of
pipe...toyota parts or what!

That is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected". The EGR valve may be gunked up or stuck open, so remove and check that. It may also be that the VSV (vacuum switching valve ) connected to it has failed. In Toyotas these little solenoid valves sometimes fail when hot but test OK when cold.
if it is a 4 cyl they are known for the flex pipe breaking the only fix is unfortunely replacment as far as the smoking sounds like you have a leak onto the exhaust have the oilpan and rear main checked
There are a few places it could be leaking from, first it could be a cooling line leaking, secound if its got a detent cable it could leak from there, third it could be leaking from dip stick tube, forth oil pan could have a hole in it or gasget is leaking, fith front pump seal or rear seal could be leaking. Everything can be fixed with trans. in car except front seal witch requires trans to come out.
