2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT won't start. Won't turn over, but hear a lot of electrical noise when trying to start. Inside lights also flicker on and off when trying to start. Battery or alternator? Was going to try to jump it, but someone had said it may be bad for the smartchip.

Hello Carrie Bonhag,

Who-ever said that... needs their OWN smart chip
worked on... Is being OVERLY cautious...

ESD: Electro-Static Discharge is a whole different
FIELD of STUDY... of SEMI-CONDUCTOR
protection... Simply toughing both points of
a 12 VOLT contact point would remove ALL
those SMART-CHIP concerns... TOTALLY
SAFE jumps are perform EVERYWHERE
daily...

((EXACTLY: roadside assistance = a jump))

The only thing you need to worry about "jumping"
is the FINAL circuit closure should be AWAY
from the AFFLICTED battery...

The sudden charge WILL generate HYDROGEN
gas at the depleted battery side...

ALLOWING a nearby SPARK could easily
provoke an EXPLOSION...

ADVANCE BATTERY Preparations
Lot of fresh water and BAKING SODA would be
nice (to have near-by (to neutralize the ACID...
All over the clothes, cars... hands... faces (etc.)).

I'm just saying... "smart chip" concerns...
(not-so-much).

((I'm just saying))...

SOURCE: mitsubishi eclipse convertiable timing belt change?

Typical timing belt intervals are every 60k miles. It's a very involved service to do the whole job - timing belt, timing belt tensioner, serpentine or accessory belts, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, all fluids, all filters, brake and suspension inspection, and tire rotation. On many cars it's recommended to change the oxygen sensors as well. Quite a bit of this can be done when you want, but the first five items are critical and should all be done. And regardless of whether your manufacturer says the coolant is "lifetime", replace it - don't reuse coolant. It's cheap and it's good practice to use new coolant.

SOURCE: 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse wont start

you don't hit the alternator, you hit the starter to help is shake free because it is already going bad. take battery and alternator to parts store and have both tested. check the wires at the starter and make sure they are on SECURELY. very important SOLID CONTACT is occurring. do your lights turn on? check starter relay if the eclipse is equipped with one.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse spider gt won't start after I change alternator belt and steering belt when I try too start is making whyning noise it won't start

Make sure battery is good, battery terminals and cables/connectors connected to alternator correctly and belts adjusted to manufactured specifications. Check to see where the whining noise is coming from, if still present. If not the belts or pulleys it could be the starter.

My 2007 Eclipse Spyder is not starting everytime. It sounds like it's flooded or something. i just don't know. All the lights come on inside, power is working, so i dont' think it's the battery. It's just...

myriad of things it could be...Has it ever been tuned up? How many miles are on it? All gasoline powered cars have to have fuel air and spark, so one of these is the problem in some way. How does it run once it gets started?
