Running rough with check engine light

Have a 2.2 liter engine in a 96 cavalier. Engine running rough, seems to be lacking power sometimes. Checked all the plugs, cleaned and regapped. all plug were burning good. Sounds like it's out of time, have a timing light, what is the procedure for checking timing, what is supposed to be, and how do you adjust ??

SOURCE: rough idle

Barring any mechanical issues you most likely have a failed injector.

Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.

SOURCE: 93' chevy 4.3 V6 vortec. engine problem

fuel lines inside the intake plhenum may be cracked and leaking inside the plhenum. same thing happened to my 1992.sonoma. they are made of a plastic material and tend to crack right in the bend of these lines.

SOURCE: Need front wheel bearings for 96 Cavalier. Help

the proper method is to remove the steering knuckle and press the new bearing out and in, it probably also throw the i alignment out, so a shop is a good idea

It is an interference engine and you will have bent valves . That will be the cause of your rough engine and lack of power. To test have a compression test done first before pulling the head

Could be one or several different things wrong, take you vehicle to your local Autozone or Advance Auto parts if one is available and have them do a scan to see what kind of codes you ECM migth be registering, the scan is free by the way. Good Luck.

96 Cavalier. "sometimes" wont start

The fact that you get enhanced ignition by physically enriching the fuel air mix indicates that the normal mix is too lean, either too little fuel or too much air. 1) Check for leaks of un-metered air in to the air ducting and inlet manifold. Look for cracks and poor joints to all vacuum lines including the evaporative emission recovery lines. 2) Check that the EGR valve is closed off at start up: this should stay closed until engine has warmed up. 3) Finally check that the coolant temperature sensor is working OK; the sensor should be informing the ECU that the engine is cold and the ECU responds by ensuring an enriched fuel mix (by prolonging the injection cycle) during engine warm up.

95 Jeep Cherokee 0 compression in #2 cylinder.

If you have a 0 reading from cylinder 2 that means there is no compression from it and you need an enfine rebuild. It seems that there had been damage to the engine.Have it hooked up to a computer and check diagnostic code.Overheating of an engine can be very costly and damaging, rememeber that always.
