If it wont crank, take your starter to your local parts store and have it tested. And if you have to buy a new one, have it tested, too. Always, always have starters and alternators tested before you take them home. If it will crank but not start, here's a possibility that all owners of older subarus should know: Have you recently had the battery disconnected? And do maybe your lights blink on and off randomly? If so, disconnect the battery, turn on the key, reconnect the battery, and press/hold that weird little button at the bottom of the dash under the steering wheel until your door locks flip a couple times. The security system goes into this strange mode when the battery is disconnected or dead for long enough, sometimes shuts off the fuel pump, and this resets it.

2001 subaru outback key will not release, car will not start, car in park

Press the brake, wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, and turn the key, sometimes the pin that locks the steering wheel gets stuck if the car is shut off with the wheels in a bind. I hope this is helpful.

Manual transmission stuck first gear

I too say its a stuck shift linkage.
Open the link below to see the image.
The bushings (A, D and E) can wear out with time and use. I have seen the joint (at A) that attaches at the transmission get seized too. These parts can be removed from the car with the transmission in place. http://globalcarbrands.com/i/subaru/subaru-shifter/subaru-shifter-06.jpg

2000 subaru outback 2.5 L engine problems

you need to pull the timing covers to see if it has a broken timing belt and find out for sure if it is an interferance engine, could be a good deal if it just needs T-belt.

Trying to find the location of the fuel pump relay in a 1997 4cyc outback looked under driverside dash but didnt find it

most fuel pump relays are located in the main fuse box, under the hood. look for a black box on the drivers side,or passenger side fenderwell under the hood. lift cover off and look on underside of the fuse box lid for location of the fuel pump relay and main engine fuse.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com
