93 C/K 1500 z71 1st gear and Reverse grind when cluth let out

93 chevy Silverado 4X4 Manual Trans. When letting out Clutch in 1st or Reverse the gear grinds until engagement. other gears fine. Doesnt grind when 4x4 is engaged. Fluid level is ok. only grinds when engine is warm. Do I need a trans fluid change with a thicker trans fluid? Or a clutch adjustment?

SOURCE: '99 silverado 4x4,new trans,no gears.

I don't see you did anything wrong per your description.
With the engine off, check the level of the transmission oil, replace the dipstick, start the truck and recheck the fluid level, level should drop. This will indicate the front pump is working.

Next, with truck running, put transmission into any gear, then return to park position. Do you hear any ratcheting noise.

Let me know.

I have a 99 Silverado 4x4 it grinds when I put it in reverse you can feel it ingage but grinds and when it shifts into 2nd it does the same thing I manually put it in 2nd and it makes a clicking sound

A MANUAL TRANS MISSION SAME AS MY 2004.
LEARN THAT REVERSE IS THE canary GEAR.(COAL MINERS)
IT HAS NO SYNCRO RINGS. SO LOVE TO GRIND FIRST.

I used to drive a crash box , ford 1958 20ton dump truck at 16 years old, so knew how to double clutch 15 speed (5 +3)brownie box

and raced cars too and blew up vast clutches doing so, all ways but sunday. (and my hands on cures as kid) cars, and motorcycles..
Step1:
first is the slave cylinder and MC must not be leaking fluid.
if yes they are bad,. if MC levels drop BINGO step1 FAILS FIX ME.

is MC reservoir full>? look first. my silly jeep steals fluid from my brake master, but only the top 1/2" is stolen , cute tick that.

test 2: SLAVE CYL. looking , 2 person test.
and the slave must move 1 full inch. or the clutch will be DEAD.
do not buy a new clutch , make sure the slave works 100% first.
my 4wd jeep takes me 10hours to do clutch and I will never skip step1 or 2, .
MY TRUCK IS NOT A CABLE LINKED CLUTCH.
it is MC + slave.

When i put it in gear it starts grinding like it wont go all the way into geer

I assume you have a manual transmission. If so sounds like your clutch maybe shot. To test your clutch put the park brake on while the truck is stopped.. shift into 5th gear and slowly let release the cluth.. the engine should die. If the engine does not die you clutch is slipping and needs to be replaced. How many miles on the vehicle ?

1993 chevy silverado 4x4 4.3 4sp. clutch issue

somthing is leaaking down then from what your desribing. probably the slave is it leaking fluid into the bellhousing?? these do trap air badly too because the bleeder is on the rear of the slave and it runs down hill with the drive train. jack the rear of truck as high as possible to get the air to rise to bleeder and bleed again

Grinding in and out of 4 wheel drive

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

Grinding sound when reversing (manual transmission)

well if it grinds when trying to get into reverse the clutch is not disegageing all the way. the cable could be worn out,the release bearing could be worn out or the push rod cold be worn out or in my case it was all 3 but mine has 250000 on it. Worst case if all of that is ok then the pushrod bushing is worn and you need to drop the tranny for that so you might as wee just replace the cluth too.
But if it grinds while IN reverse then the reverse
gears are shot. Hows the gear lube?

Difficulty changing from 1st to 2nd in my 4x4

Tarpgrove:

Does the car grind when you put it into reverse? If so, the clutch is not fully disengaging and needs to be most likely bled or adjusted. It Is the clutch hydraulic oil they changed, correct?

If it does not grind when putting into reverse, I would ask the shop that did the clutch if they changed the fluid in the trans. And if so, what fluid they used. Check your owners manual for the correct fluid specification.

Also if your clutch was replaced because it was dragging, not because of slipping, you may have done some damage to 2ed gear synchronizer causing this problem as well.

Regards and and good luck.
