Adjust the idle though the throttle body at the top

Go to your local shucks or auto zone and they can check any codes behind your check engine light and it's free. It sounds like one of two things a O2 sensor or your mass airflow sensor but they will tell you for sure

The idle on that model is computer controlled & non adjustable.You might try cleaning the idle air controll circut on the throttle body with carb cleaner.Good luck,

Try checking for vaccum leaks, use carb cleaner and spray it around the base of carb, vaccum hoses, edges of intake manifold, take pliers and squeeze the big line to brake power booster & see if it changes, pull the pcv valve out and cover with your finger see if it changes idle.

check timing with timing light , sounds like its out of time , and make sure that the timing marks are not off by one tooth

it is a vacue leak in the ac controls in the dash a cracked line that after a few minutes of idling it sucks shut and the engine idles down and runs fine
