A lot of the lights work. The airbag one and couple other ones do not. It's like a crazy mistery.A lot of the lights work. The airbag one and couple other ones do not. It's like a crazy mistery.

there is 1 or 2 problems you have. there is a common problem with the instrument clusters going bad,and replaceing it can solve the problem. the other is that there is a body control module behind the fuse box under the dash, and it controls the instrument cluster
Take the screws out of the dash on the driverside. There will be roughly 8 screws. The dash will be removible by pulling slightly around the edges. Pull the top part of the dash off first then work your way down past the steering wheel. The instrement cluster has 4 screws in it take them out. Tilt the top of the instrument cluster forward. Disconnect the pig tail and slowly remove. I say slowly cuz I. Had some places I had to feness out. Reverse the instructions for reinstall. Email me if u need more help. [email protected]
The instrument cluster needs to be replaced. However, it'll have to be removed to determine the color of the plug in the back. 1997 is usually red. If you hit the dash above the instrument cluster (with the key in the run position) you'll see the gauges come on (sometimes it has to be hit a few times) and it'll get you where you have to go. I only suggest hitting it a a diagnostic technique of to get you back home. I hope I've helped. You can check my testimonials if this seems somewhat unorthodox. I'll admit that it is, but it works. The instrument cluster contacts most likely have small cracks in them. Do the lights on the temperature controls flash also? Thanks for using Fixya. Please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.
Hello it sounds like a ground or connection problem to you dash cluster. I would pull the front driver side dash board appart and unscrew the the instrument cluster check wiring for being loose or corroded at the plugin. if that checks out good no corrosion the instrument cluster itself might have a problem. I seen the instrument cluster go bad before that is probably it.
Hi! The fuel filter may be clogged by dirt and rust causing failure of fuel supply to the engine. Try replacing the fuel filter and it may resolve the problem. Hope this helps and have a good one!
I just experienced this problem. I called my mechanic and he knew what it was because it happened to his wife's Intrepid.
The solder connections on the back of the dash crack allowing it to work at times due to temperture variations. All he did was remove the cluster and re-solder it and replace it. It now works perfectly. He charged me $100. Cheaper than a new cluster!
The lights all work except the one in the dash
