Daughter has a 2004 mitsubishi eclipse gs with 30,000 miles. Mechanic recommends replacing timing belt now but book recommends at 60,000. Why now?

You don't need to. Is he trying to drum up service? The only reason to change belt at 30,000 is if you have to take it off for another work, like the water pump, something like that. Then you might as well replace belt, since it is already off. But just to change belt because it hit 30,000? No, no way.

When to change timing belt in 2006 galant

Timing Belt Replace ment Intervals for 2006 Mitsubishi Galant are as follows:

2.4L 4Cylinder engine: Every 60,000 miles

3.8L V-6 Engine: Every 60,000 miles

Both of these engines are "Interference Engines" which means that if the timing belt breaks, severe engine damage is likely to result.

I personally recommend replacement of the timing belt idler and tensioner pullies as well as the water pump because failure of these components will cause a failure of the timing belt.

Is it necessary to change the timing belt in a 2004 Elantra VE with 65000 miles (105500 Km)? No problems with it, just mechanic says it's time.

60,000 miles is the typical recommended interval for timing belt replacement. The belt can become worn and skip a tooth or even break. In that event, the pistons can collide with the valves and cause a considerable (and expensive) amount of damage. Changing the timing belt at recommended intervals is good insurance to protect against valvetrain and piston damage due to belt failure.

1999 Tercel. Timing belt/water pump interval change?

Hello tinaromano1: The factory specification are to replace the belt every 90,000 miles in severe service. I would recommend to replace at 90,000 no matter what the service would be. Keep in mind should the belt break there is always a chance engine damage may occur. Should you need further help just ask. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger
