Just had the same problem. Think mine is either start relay or neutral safety switch. Just took small wire going to clip on starter (brownish) and bared area of wire 6 inches from clip (do not cut) and wrapped bare end of new wire around it, taped with electrical tape, ran that wire to a push button ( I used a horn relay button from Canuck Tire) and wire from other side of button to battery. Turn ignition on,,, push button and instant start. Make sure car is in park. Will replace defective part later but it'll get you to work or wherever and it'll prove it is not the starter motor. Cost of temporary repair.... $6.00 :D

Check the battery cables if there ok then check the fuses there is one for the start that migh have ben blown

how do you know if the fuse for the starter is blown

  • Anonymous Oct 01, 2012

Pull out fuse from fusebox (mine was pink colour) and use multimeter to test. If a mutimeter scares ya there are small testers that look like a screwdriver you can use available anywhere.

2000 Dodge neon won't crank

Start by checking battery voltage, should be 12.5v to 12.8v. Then check battery draw, use a voltmeter on the battery while trying to start the car and watch the voltage drop, if drop is below 9.6v, it's not enough to start the engine and you will have to get your battery load tested. If there is no or very little voltage drop, then check the starter wire on the starter with the voltmeter, if the readings on the starter wire is battery volts, then you may have a bad starter. If no or very little volts at the starter wire, then go to the power distribution box and check for a faulty starter relay. Good luck, Gary

No juice to the starter on a 2000 dodge neon, won't crank or start , can jump the starter across, but when you turn the key power but won't start.

Check the neutral safety switch,if it is good, replace the ignition switch,if all the fuses are good, please vote, thank you

2000 plymouth neon wont turn over it just clicks twice replaced battery tested starter and it is good

Try replacing the hot cable from the battery to the starter, replace the clamp, cable and all. Sometimes they corrode down inside.
