2000 jaguar XJR. pressing accelerator - nothing happens -

2000 XJR. pressing accelerator - nothing happens - ease off, re-press pedal, acceleration OK. Supercharger only works occasionally. Transmission problems starting to show - drive can suddenly stop but engine still revs fine. Move selector into neutral, back to drive, and off we go.

Now, restricted performance light coming on occasionally - goes out after a while. At idle, car is 'surging' slightly and turnover seems very unstable.

Are all these problems linked or indicative of very big bills ahead ? Transmission last checked about 8 months ago = no problem detected.

Any thoughts welcome !

SOURCE: 01' Jaguar XJR Starter location?

If you get just a click you should first check battery charge and all battery connections. The click is probably the solenoid kicking in but without enough battery to turn over the engine.

Hi it may be an air sensor, air mass sensor.

When you ease off the power they often cut out with this fault. Try cleaning the air mass sensor with carb cleaner, its a easy job. let me know if you are unsure where it is and I will talk you through it.

2000 ford explorer would not start unless the accelerator pedal is pressed it runs but it stops when the accelerator pedal is not pressed

Maybe a TPS is bad that controls the voltage. You would need to see if it is mantaining the proper voltage at WOT as well as closed throttle. It should be around .5 volts closed, and 4.5 open, but if there isn't any voltage on the bottom end that would be where your problem lies.
