My 2004 Malibu Maxx has had intermittent electric power steering issues 4 times since we bought it used in March of this year(2010) The dealer has "repaired" it twice, but I am concerned there is a deeper issue. How do I enter a complaint, or help effect are recall so this problem is taken care of? I have search the web and found many others with the same issue--what ,if anything is Chevy doing about this?

If this is the first time the light has come on more than likely its the O2 sensor. If you want to find the code go to a Murrys Auto parts store and rent the scan tool or maybe a local auto repair shop with scan it for you for free.

Hope this helps U

We're having a popping sound in the steering in my 2006 malibu maxx hatchback ? Is there a recall . Please help

i just bought a 2005 malibu maxx from a dealership. It was having a popping sound when i would turn the wheel back and forth. Had the dealership fix it. THEY said they replaced the ( rack and pinion ) for the steering on the car. Don't think there is a recall on that. GM had a lot of problems with that popping noise on their malibu maxx. Hope that might help.

Power steering goes out intermittently. Had the steering column replaced 4 years ago now the problem is backm dealer said I may need new gearbox. And column replacement @ a cost of 1700.00

I dont think this car has a gear box,did you crash on that car to need to replace the steering column, you need to check first if the power steering pump has enogh pressure, the other part you need to check is the rack and pinion.

Told by gm dealer we need a new steering colum for our 2004 malibu maxx, $1,100.00,plus a rack because it is binding and leaking 586.00,plus a shaft 300.00? it has 140k miles. never in an accident all...

Very rarely does the steering column go.....It sounds like you have a power steering fluid leak somewhere or the rack and pinion went bad. Go to a small garage and have them look at it if you can't. But, don't tell them what the Dealer said! They just might confirm it and give you a better deal than the Dealer!!! Tell them you don't have alot of money and just let them find the problem...You will probably be surprised about the diagnosis this time. It might be something alot more simple to fix....and cheaper too! I sincerely hope that this was helpful for you. Take care and God bless.
