starter must be faulty if it wont even turn over, unless its hydrauliced.take plugs out and c if it will turn over

My name is Tom and I can help you. Have you made sure to check all the wires? This means spark plug and battery cables. If so have you any shorts or "hot wires" under the dash? Any other information about the car. For instance. can you jump start the car? This tells me a lot. The more info I get the more I can help.

Most likely it is a Starter Solenoid or ignition switch if starter turns but motor does not crank the bendix may not be kicking in on the starter even if it is turning also check flywheel for broken teeth.....Good Luck

Battery good, starter god, alternator good. Car will not start or even turn over. all dash etc; lights work but no further action. any idea what could be wrong?

check the ground wire connection to the battery and to the engine
to ensure that the battery is good have you had it load tested or have you just put a multi meter across the terminals

I have a 2003 Golf automatic with the 2.0 litre eng. very cold mornings will not start. Battery and starter replaced 02/2012. everything turns on lights, radio etc. when you turn the key. have tapped

Soundls like it could be the start relay thats in with the fuses
Not sure where they are on that car...( the rabbit they were under the dash on the drivers side) but locate them and find the one for the starter cricuit then find another in the system that is the same swap those 2 and see what it does next time its cold

Car wont start just clicks

That is the starter solenoid closing the contacts in the starter, but unfortunately to no further action. Most likely your battery is dying, and cannot supply the heavy cranking current needed. Such a battery might still operate the lights tho.

If the battery is newish, then it may not be getting charged properly, so you could get the alternator tested.

Another possibility is that the starter solenoid main contacts are worn and not touching any more, even though they click in.

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla DLX 4dr, fwd. The car was running and starting fine (drove it to the store this morning) and when I go to move it later to let my roommates out of the driveway, the car wont...

Battery very weak
Alternator not working
Bad connections at battery posts, or bad connections on ground cable

If you can jump the car to start it, and it will stay running, take it to Advance Auto, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc and have them test your battery/alternator.

Dash dsnt come on/ wnt strt

Dead battery possibly. However, check all connections first on both the battery, pos and neg - as well as the negative on the chassi or block (wherever it's grounded) and the starter.

If these are all good - try jump starting the car. If it start, disconnect the battery (both terminals) and if it stays running the alternator is still good. If it dies, the alternator needs repalced, as well as the battery.

When an alternator starts to lose (or quit holding) it's charge, the battery becomes the main source of power. The battery purpose is to supply power to the starter at starting point, then to all electrical components. The alternator simply keeps the battery charged. So, without a good alternator, then goes the batter after about 3-5 starts and drives.

Also, as a safe measure check all fuses and relays. See my tip on how to test relays.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

1998 bmw 740il will not start even with new a battery

If you checked all the fuses try putting the car in neutral sometimes the shifter gets misadjusted and wont start till the car is completely in park.If not check for a lose wire to the starter. If the car has an after market alarm you will have to turn it off before starting there should be a little buuton under the drivers dash or kick panel.GOOD LUCK

04 Taurus will not turn over and start

the problem is the stater i have been having the same problem. To check next time this happens have someone turning the key to start the car and someone tapping on the starter with a hammer form the top part of the car. The car will then start. The starter is located below the oil filter.
