Sounds like a head gasket leak. Have a cooling system pressure test and cylinder leakdown test performed. In the meantime, you should NOT drive this vehicle or you'll cause more damage.

Sounds like a wire is crossed...as the motor had a smoother idle and operation prior to changing the plug wires...your parts store should confirm the firing order over the phone...#1 cylinder on your Buick 3800 is the front left...as you are standing in front of your Lesabre...hope this helps...
On top of the engine find the fuel rail, unplug the vacuum line that is on the pressure regulator and see if it is leaking fuel. if it is that is your problem, it is sending raw fuel into your intake.
the fuel filter should be under the bonnet either on left or right inner wing you cant miss it it is a black round tube with a alloy top with 2 pipes coming from the top or if your car is a carburettor model on the pipe from the tank to the carb it will be about 3-5cm long and have the pipe from tank on one end and pipe to carb on other
Check engine light on ? Have it check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . New fuel pump ,new gas cap,because check lite comes., just replacing parts is not the way to fix car's !
