No engine crank with battery fully charged. We did try to jump start with cables backwards and had some sparking. Did we blow relay to the ignition switch. If so where are all the relays located to the ignition from the battery???

well the battery was dead. , the starter is dead and fails to crank then engine. (turns over has no meaning,some say cranks other claims runs means turns over )
but I get it the starter motor is dead
then jumped cabled after 10min the dead battery is now just tad charged up but you removed the JUMP and the engine stalled I guess..
lights use only 10 amps of current , but the starter need 30 times more current and fails. 300amp to 500 amp hr battery is bad or lugs rusty or loose.
or the alternator is bad .
the cluster lamp , has charge/ battery lamp if this glows after the successful jump. the alternator is bad. (or belt to it failing/slipping)
keep in mind an alternator switches off line if any battery gross fault is detected (shorted battery cells or open)
batteries with shorted cell explode (acid rupture max)
batteries open cell (10v battery )the voltage can go so high over 19v
that electronics blows up, $1000 or more, damage
so the regulator takes the alternator off line , until corrected.
saving everyone and every thing from those horrors above.
what I do is fully test the battery first, charged and load tested.
or take to a autostore or shop and test it.

the battery they love to fail 5 to 7 years old.
that is there THING , short lived. same with belts, tires, hoses ,pads
tests are easy
get the battery load tested
or charge the battery fully using a real battery charger 15amps, best.
and test the alternator, after good battery works and starter works and engine runs
battery voltage running is 13v to 15vdc, if not the ALT is bad or its 3 fuses blown.(up to)
key off battery voltage fully rested battery say 1hour, is 12.6vdc,not 10.


also a weak battery can wake up, as they rest and the acid mix inside
the cells gets uniform it can gain capacity. this is common.
just key off ,lamps off, and battery can self improve.
if start is dead , learn to crank not just in park but try NEUTRAL.

The jump start may have blown you alternator or voltage regulator. If so, you have an inactive charging system. You must have a good battery for this to work, Disconnect the positive cable to the battery. Use a battery charger to slow charge your battery. When the battery is fully charged, reattach the positive cable and try to start your engine. If it starts take the truck to a shop or auto zone to have the charging system checked. Fix what is needed.
Any time a vehicle is jump started, do so with the hot battery car not running and its ignition off. If it is running and your car starts one or both charging systems are usually damaged. There may not be damage if it is GM to GM or Ford to Ford, etc., but to be safe, do not let both cars run at the same time when connected.

Try removing the battery cables and cleaning the post then making sure cables are tight

Hi you are having a battery problem, you need to check your charging system. get a jump start then drive your car to an auto parts store that will test your battery and charging system. If your battery is to low your car will not continue to run, after the jump start. if you have a battery symbol lite on (when your car is running)the dash board don't drive it untill you can get the battery fully charged

jumping a car, that is battery jump starting.
a battery can short, and no jump start on earth will start shorted battery in car. but does lay down some big sparks, or burns up cheap walmart cables.
if the car will not crank, say just that, my starter motor will not crank
jump started from live running other car.
if true then make sure headlights work , if they dont work fix that first.
HL must always work, even keys in pocket.
best is to put a fully charged battery in the car, jump starting can cause
surges that can damage sensitive electronic$$$, do jumps as a desperate measure,
with a charged battery,
1: Head lights work, no fix that , use voltmeter
2: cranks robustly.
no , wiggle shifter lever, (on A/T cars the park switch blocks cranking) On M/T the clutch blocks cranking.

measure battery voltage before crank and during.
12.6v good. reseted.

0 to 10v bad (weak battery or shorted starter motor)
11 and above good. and must crank, if not , starter is bad.
to prove starter is bad, check voltage at starter solenoid coil wire lug.
it must be at 11v cranking , below 8v it chatters, and fails.
if at 0v cranking this lug that means the Key start line is failing.
A/T switch not closes, or bad ignition switch.

i can jumper cable start my car at any time. (off another running car)
but after running my car, the battery discharges and it will not crank at all. right?
this means ,the charging system on your car is bad.
if the starter cranks great, then the engine is flooded or is in great need of a tune up (sparkplugs etc)
if flooded try the super secret in the op guide, crank with throttle wide open , this magic trick cuts all fuel injection allowing the flooding
to purge away, and eventual starting.
my guess 2 is the car wont start, so you crank the battery flat

Sounds like a bad alternator. Drained your battery and when you turned on the lights it took all the power left in your battery. When you drain a battery down that far, they are real hard to jump, and coupled with the alternator, the car is not producing enough current to start and stay running.

I would take the alternator off and take it to oyur local auto parts store to be tested. If bad, replace it and charge the battery fully before starting. Then check voltage at battery with motor running. Should be 13.2 -14 Volts DC. If not, you may have a bad battery cable or blown fusible link. (especially that if the alternator tests good).....Mike

Sounds like a flat battery, it will have enough power to kick in the starter solenoid [the clicking noise] but not enough to turn engine over. Best to fit a battery that you know is good into the vehicle. If the fault still persists the starter could be faulty. To check the starter bridge the main battery power terminal [30] on the starter solenoid and the smaller terminal [50] also on the solenoid [power from ignition switch]. The starter should turn. MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS IN NEUTRAL WHEN DOING THIS AND TAKE CARE NOT TO BRIDGE POWER CABLES TO STARTER HOUSING.

is the battery fully charged? will it jump start/ if the battery is good and it wont jump start. It sounds like a bad starter, sometimes on a GM auto you can tap the starter housing with a hammer and get it to start if this works you will need to get a new starter. Note tap the starter dont beat on it.

It sounds to me like you have an issue with your battery not being fully charged.

If, after you drive the truck for a while and you still can't start your truck without jumping it that would lead me to believe that either your battery is in need of replacement or your alternator isn't working as it should.

What you can do is try to charge your battery to full capacity. If the battery is able to charge fully then you know its not your battery. Also after you have the battery fully charged try to start your truck up. It should turn over just fine. If it doesn't I would check and make sure you have enough cold cranking amps for your application.

If its not the battery the next place to check would be the alternator which charges your battery while the engine is running.
