You may be needing a new compressor. If your replace your compressor and you are still having trouble, you may want to check your lines for a leak. All of these things could cost you lots of time and money. To avoid the headache, check out Strutmasters.com.
I replaced the air system on a couple vehicles for myself and my mom. I was very impressed with the quality and the customer service I received from them.

.y 1996 marquis rear air suspension is not working and it wont lift what should i do

There are few choices. Fix your system or replace the rear air suspension with steel coil springs. Some of the testing scanners can hook up to a diagnostic port and diagnose the air suspension parts. One part can cause the system to shut down. Make sure the on/off switch is set to on. It should be in the trunk next to the fuel pump switch.

Air suspension compressor sounds bad and wont pump up the rear on a 2003 mercury grand marquis

What is odd is the compressor stopping after so short a time. It may be your only problem.

When you have a leak in the system, the compressor keeps running because the sensors do not signal for it to shut off. On your vehicle it is either being told to shut off prematurely or the compressor is triggering a circuit breaker.

There are ride height sensors on the rear. If the vehicle was lifted without turning off the Air ride, the sensors may have been stretched.

You can check for air leaks in the suspension bags, and air lines using a spray bottle of soapy water. There is also a Master dump valve that should be ahead of the Drivers front tire/radiator well area. It is not a concern unless there is no pressure in the system.

Finally, just as the engine can express diagnostic Codes, so can the suspension. You need a better scanner to do this function. It is the quickest way to find the problem.

2003 Grand Marquis air suspension vents (deflates) completely at times lately.

You do have a leak and it is one or more of the air suspension springs, I have seen this same scenario dozens of times on Ford products with air suspension.

1999 Merc Gr Marquis: Air Suspension Warn Light / compressor

Try calling several Autozone stores and see if the have a scanner for the air suspension.

There are height adjustment sensors under the car and it may be that a sensor got smashed or failed. I remember reading this tech stuff about 20 years ago for a 1988 LSC. As long as the air is not leaking and the compressor runs its a plus.

I always recommend going to a Salvage yard and asking about the parts and asking if I can look at where the parts go. That way you are not tearing up your car trying to do something you don't have tools for.

Air suspension is not working

It just happened to me. I took it to a spring shop and had the air bags replaced with coil springs. It is an identical fit from a Crown Vic and only cost $200.00 total! Too much can go wrong with other parts of the air suspension. The ride is the same.

Air suspension on my grand marquis comes on with engine off

What is probably going on is the air suspension has a leak so the compressor is breaking down. So it will run at odd times trying to make up for the times it can not run. What you need to do is look for a conversion kit. The conversion will stop all problems that you are having now and you will never have to worry about it again. I would recommend strutmasters.com. They have great prices and there kits are guaranteed to last the life of the car. I posted the link below so you can take a look.

Check Air Suspension for 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

It sounds to me like your compressor got killed. What probably happened is that the airbag got a hole or tiny crack in it so the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag killed the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. I added the link below so you can check it out.
