Had water in the fuel filter replaced it and now it tries to die if I'm at a red light

Just because a fuel pump buzzes, means little, very little.

the filter drained clay, well that is bad fuel.
try pumping tank fuel to a clear mayo jar and let it sit.
not clear amber, water bubbes, red rust, dirt ,slime, or even red alge? BINGO

you might check that the injectors are firing, with a NOID lamp.
I bet they are and are packed
the injectors have screens, 10 Microns in size
no , they dont come out, a pro injector shop ,back flushes them
no small task, but is $19 each,. ASK.
stalls or dies. always , forever.

sound like fuel pump but replace fuel filter first check fuel pressure should be 48 psi.

fit a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure, if low check fuel filter and fuel regulator if they are ok replace the pump

CODE SCAN COULD HAVE FAULTY TCC SOLENOID CAUSING TORQUE CONVERTER TO REMAIN LOCK UP.OR YOU COULD HAVE BAD IDLE AIR SPEED CONTROL.INTAKE LEAK EGR SOLENOID STICKING OPEN. COULD HAVE BAD PLUGS AND WIRES.BAD FUEL INJECTOR.CLOGGED FUEL FILTER.WATER IN GAS FUEL CONTAMINATED.

When was last "healthy" tune up? Plugs, wires, ALL filters including FUEL filter? I'd start there, and run a good fuel system cleaner w/next tank full of fuel. In winter, with fluctuating temps, condensation (water) forms in fuel tank and spark plugs don't burn fuel/water efficiently causing stumbling and premature wear on your plugs.

The only fuel filter is in the fuel/water heater/sperator. If it is dying, the glow plug circuit should be checked first. The glow plug light should illuminate for around 10 seconds. The next thing I would check would be the fuel pressure going to the fuel/water seperator. Let me know what you find and if you need diagrams let me know.

Sounds like while on your trek about, you may have bought fuel and it most likely had a large amount of water in the tank. I think you have water in you tank. How many miles do you have on this vehicle?Did your vehicle at any time on your trip get hot, in the red? One drop of water on a fuel filter will almost make it impermeable to its ability to pass fuel through it.There are many more unanswered questions that I have for you. mike [email protected]
