VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor is connected to the transmission on the bell housing and probably has 2 wires leading to it from the computer wiring harness.

The vehicle speed sensor is just a pickup coil that senses movement and rotational speeds of the car's wheels, indirectly. The faster the wheels spin, the faster the pickup coil receives a signal and the computer can calculate your speed.

2001 Nissan Xterra Camshaft Position Sensor Location.

the camshaft sensor is located into distribuitor.......The camshaft position sensor is a basic component of the engine control system. It monitors engine speed and piston position. These input signals to the ECMare used to control fuel injection, ignition timing and other functions.

The camshaft position sensor has a rotor plate and a wave-forming circuit. The rotor plate has 360 slits for a 1° (POS) signal and 6 slits for a 120° (REF) signal. The wave-forming circuit consists of Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and photo diodes.

The rotor plate is positioned between the LED and the photo diode. The LED transmits light to the photo diode. As the rotor plate turns, the slits cut the light to generate rough-shaped pulses. These pulses are converted into on-off signals by the wave-forming circuit and sent to the ECM.

The distributor is not repairable and must be replaced as an assembly except distributor cap and rotor head.

NOTE: The rotor screw which secures the distributor rotor head to the distributor shaft must be torqued properly.

I have a 2003 chevy malibu with 90,000 miles. i took it in for maintenance and the mechanic said that it was showing trouble code p0341. he said it was the cam sensor. yesterday when i went to start it, it...

if the cam sensor is bad, it will definitely not start. The cam shaft position sensor's function is: the engine speed and crankshaft position information is supplied frome a sensor which is usually situated at the front or rear of the crankshaft. note that distributor-located engine speed sensor are generally being replaced with crank shaft-located sensors,as worn disributor drives and associated components can effect the accuracy of the engine speed signal.

A camshaft position sensor,or cylinder identification sensor is used to determin the engine cycle position the information is used to provide individual cylinder ignition and injection cotrol. Many engine mangement systems use an inductive type of sensor that is located near the camshaft;when the camshaft rotates a single signal is passed to the ECU to indicate a reference point in the engine cycle

Camshaft position sensor location

crank sensor is a component used in an internal combustion engine to monitor the position or rotational speed of the crankshaft. This information is used by engine management systems to control ignition system timing and other engine parameters. Before electronic crank sensors were available, the distributor would have to be manually adjusted to a timing mark on the engine.

The crank sensor can be used in combination with a similar camshaft position sensor to monitor the relationship between the pistons and valves in the engine, which is particularly important in engines with variable valve timing. It is also commonly the primary source for the measurement of engine speed in revolutions per minute.

Crank sensors in engines are usually comprised of magnets and an inductive coil. They are principally based on the Hall effect. Common mounting locations include the main crank pulley, the flywheel, or occasionally on the crankshaft itself.

Some engines, such as GM's Premium V family utilise crank position sensors which read a reluctor ring integral to the Harmonic Balancer. This is a much more accurate method of determining the position of the crankshaft, and allows the computer to determine within a few degrees the exact position of the crankshaft (and thereby all connected components) at any given time.
