1995 Mazda 626 -what is the firing order on a 2,5lt engine? I have # one turned to the top and the timing mark on the crank is right on but the rotor is on #6 plug. Doesn't make sense to me. When I turn it over it backfires through the air intake. I removed the cover on the timing belt and it is in good condition with no cracks or no cogs missing

I read that the firing order was '1,2,3,4,5,6' which is easy to remember: 1995 Mazda 626 -what is the firing order on a - prev.gif FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Need a wiring diagram for spark plugs for a 1995 jeep Cherokee sport

V6 engine: firing order: 1 2 3 4 5 6, distributor rotates clockwise. Left bank of engine (driver's side), cylinders 2, 4, 6 (#2 at front of engine). Right bank: 1, 3, 5 (#1 at front of engine).
Inline 6 engine: firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. Distributor rotates clockwise.
The number one tower on the dist. cap should have a mark or numeral 1 on it. If not, turn crankshaft to top dead center of compression stroke on number one cylinder, the 0 degrees or "T" mark on the crank pulley pointer. If you are on the compression stroke (not the exhaust stroke), the rotor under the dist. cap will be pointing to the number one cylinder spark plug wire tower.

We have replaced the motor on a 1995 blazer with a rebuilt long block. The engine will now turn over but not start. It has been suggested that we replace the cam sensor. Plugs fire and it's getting gas?...

It has to be in the timing, you either have the wires in the wrong place with the firing order, or there is something wrong with the Dist.If it is sparking and getting gas, it should fire up. Does it back fire? Order no. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, with electronic ignition, number one at 5:30, I would check the distributor, make sure the number one is at 5:30 with the number one at tdc. Hope this helps.

Where should the #1 wire go on the distributor for a 5.7l GM - or doesn't it matter as long as the firing order is right?

Wrong the number one is important. most caps are marked most always GM Small blocks the one is towarws the frount of the car or pointing right at the number 1 cyclinder if nessary and the distrubutor has been removed from theengine or the timing chain is in quesation then the cap needs to be removed and the engine turned buy hand to line up the timing mark on the damper and then see where the rotor on the distrubutor is pointing. As the timing could be off the rotor should be pointing to the number one or number six as the rotor turns 1/2 speed of the crank. With it on the mark watching the dist turn the crank backwards to see if the chain is bad. if the crank turns more the 15 degrees before the rotor moved the chain is too worn and all kinds of running problems are possible. Ifits Ok put the number one where the rotor is pionting and put themon in the firing order. Tighting to bolt on the crank is the direction of retation and watching the rotor turn will tell you whick way the next wire goes. Connect all the wires air cleaner and all and starter up. If it back fires thoubnt the air claener your 180 out and the wires are half a turn off. Switch them from one side of the cap to the other and count it out to see if your still in order and then start it again if it kicks the starter its one to the counterclockwase to far and if it doesn't hit at all or barely runs with little power your to the clockwise one to far

Cylinder order

The firing order on all four cylinder engines is 1.3.4.2. and number one cylinder is at the opposite end of the engine to the gearbox, at the end with the belts and pulleys.
