I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7 engine and I would like to know how hard is it to change out the A/C compresser?

Got to change the entire system. Not cheap at all. $1300-$2000...You just can't swap out the compressor, and leave the rest of components. The entire system will be damaged. It's not as simple as it seems.

Can i bypass the air compressor on my 2000 dodge intrepid

Is the air conditioning compressor locked up? If so, you can unplug the electrical connector going to the compressor. This will keep the compressor clutch from engaging and should let the pulley freewheel.

Air conditioning not working on dodge intrepid. added freon. still blowing out HOT AIR. what do i do now?

I have 2 ideas.

Idea 1: The clutch in your ac compressor could be out.

Idea 2: The ac compressor isn't getting any power. Use test lights on the connectors to the ac compressor to make sure it is getting power. (Test this before trying to change the ac compressor. It is way cheaper to fix a connection than to change the compressor.)

NOTE: ac compressor clutch is not available seperately for this car at discount auto parts stores.

Adding freon to the air conditioning where does the freon go?

look for the thick pipes vs. the thin pipes and a quick connector that goes on to the hose that fills the r134a via a can of freon.

Or, do you mean, where is the freon leaking out of? The freon leaks out of o-rings, seals, and possibly the compressor.

I had a compressor changed in my 1990 Cadillac Deville because it was leaking there. This is a common problem on older cars.

Good luck.

The compressor on my 2004 intrepid is engaging from time to time it seems it engages when it want and will shout down if the fan is on high every time

Check for possible freon leak on a/c system. If the compressor comes on and off several times in a short time that is a sign of low freon in system. If you find an oil around any connection that will have to be repaired before it can be repaired. Hope this will help you.

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that smells funny when I turn on the AC. I have looked it up and the forums say to change the Cabin Air Filter. I can't find where the filter is?!

You do not have a cabin filter....Two things......you need to check (freon preasure) you may have a freon leak from the AC evap coil behind the instrrment panel, the smell is AC freon pag oil from the AC system, it smells funny. Or you may have mildew build up on your evap coil there is a spray to disinfect the coil.Check auto zone or pep boys....Good luck my friend

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid r/t my air worked

I am sorry for you, as it is becoming more apparent that an increasing number of Technicians, should be with Kermit, on the Muppet Show, and not charging fees for **** workmanship.
I have written this down on FIXYA as many times as I have had a Hot Dinner this year.
When at a Shop, for A/c for example, always ask for a CHECK AND ADVISE.
Yes, you pay the FEE for that, but you should get a Full Written report of the Findings, by the Technician.
Such as High and Low Pressure readings from the Run UP Test, and if the readings are Out of Parameter for the system, the apparent Failure[s] in the system, Compressor, Low Freon, Plugged Filter Drier/Accummulator, Ctuch and /or Pulley etc.
Tolerate the inconvenience, and go back and ask them what did they exactly do, if it is not already clearly notified on your Invoice.
Should you get fobbed off, rattle their cage with a Better Business/ Trading Standards threat to complain.
Come back to me, if you are dumped.
Regards,DT

Compressor does not engage when ac is turned on, is it definitely the compressor?

It could be low in freon and won't allow the compressor to engage. Have you checked to see if your fuse is blown? It should be in the fuse panel of the car. Was the air acting up prior to not working anymore? like not blowing real cold air or anything?
