2000 Dodge Dakota 6cyl: The problem is the AC

2000 Dodge Dakota SLT 6cyl: The problem is the AC blows cold when starting my trip to wherever. When I get ready to come home for my short trip, the compressor does not come on. I checked the freon only at this point. Could it be a relay switch in the fuse box, or a clutch? I'm not sure where to check. Thanks

My gmc yukon 2000 slt rear ac blows hot air when i have ac . on and the front works fine .

I have a 2000 GMC Savana Van SLT with front and rear AC/Heat. My front would blow hot while the rear blew cold with AC on. It turned out to be low on Freon. It's hard to know if you have the right amount of freon installed because pressures vary depending on the ambient temperatures. So the best way is to remove all the freon then reinstall the recommended amount as listed on the evaporator housing near the firewall. This worked fine for me... works like new after installing the correct amount of freon.

Adding Freon to 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT

You can purchase R134a cans with a built in gauge so you don't overcharge... Assuming the system has not completely discharged, usually a can or less will do. Here is a link with some basic instructions:

1999 Dodge Dakota AC no longer blowing cold. And

You may want to have the AC cleaned out.  This involves removing the evaporator and cleaning it inside out.  While you have it out, have the vents check if you have the "door" that lets the outside air in if it is working,  Just to be sure that the dust did not come from the outside.  You may also want the AC freon checked out.
