My service engine soon light came on and my gas gage dropped below empty and gas light came on. I stopped and filled up and the gas light stayed on for another 50 miles. The service engine light is still on but the gas hand has moved to full level. How expensive is this to fix. I just now reaching 60960 miles.

Two separate problem.
first problem the check light- goto AutoZone or similar and have them scan for codes this is free.
second problem fuel gauge- the level sending unit is bad. This is a resistor based unit. As the level of fuel changes so does the resistance and it registered on gauge. The tank will register as full even thought it is almost empty. Need to get fixed asap

It would be nice to know why the service engine light came on and is still on. An auto mechanic can read the code for you, or a dealer, or some parts stores will sell a device to read the code that caused the light to come on.

Hi the same happen to me ... i solve it like this
Open the trunk, locate the fuses compartment box, open it
Read the location of the fuse under the tap of the fuses compartment box
It should be "15A Fuel Pump" fuse so exchange it for a new one
You can buy it from wal mart (the little ones, not the standard regular one ok...) or you can buy it from the dealer ... wich i did but it cost me 3.35 dlls and a box in walmart is cheap ....

have a nice day !!!

SOURCE: Temp gage dropped below szero

Is there coolant in the cooling system? If there is not enough coolant the sensor won't pick up a signal because it's not sumerged. It could be the thermostat is stuck open. Are you in a cold climate, is your anti-freeze stong enough? Your cooling system could be froze. If my calculations are correct 70 km is a little over 4 miles. I'm thinking frozen radiator.

I filled my gas tank with regular gas and 5 mins later the check engine light came on and the low fuel light came on. I turned the car off and let it sit for an hour. I made sure the gas cap was on...

Im faily certain you have a problem with your fuel sending unit. Im not sure how common that is with Chevy Malibus but i replaced that in my 98 jeep cherokee and that did the trick.

How big of gas tank is on it. {gallon wise}. And the gage shows full when you fill it up then after you have about 2-4 gallons left it drops to below the yellow line. Light comes on. Why.

ok im trying to be a mind reader now!!! what car is it????
i can tell you why the light come's on,,,its to tell you you need to fill up with gass again? in the uk we call that light the "**** he*d's light" as people dont see it then they run out of gass! stupid "A" if you realy need to know how many galls it takes just fill it up when the light comes on,,not after you have ran out of gass!

How much longer do i have before the car stops when the fuel gage hits E.

Put an empty gas can in your car (2 gallon or more).
Next time you are just on E,
1) stop by a gas station and fill up the gas can (not your car).
2) Record your milage.
3) Drive around until you run out of gas.
4) record your milage again and calculate distance driven.
5) write the number somewhere in your car for future reference.

6) Fill up your car from the gas can (carefully).
Take the empty can out of your car as soon as possible.

Gas gauge flys from quarter tank to way past full mark and sticks

This isn't a definite fix, but it may be that the gasoline in your tank is 'sloshing' forwards and backwards and your sensour is getting readings when the gasoline is in different positions in your tank. The connection is actually above your gasoline tank and you'll have to take off the tank harnesses and drop the tank if you want to check to see if the connection became slightly loose, otherwise you can just fill your gas tank and reset your temporary milage gage (that's the little black button near your RPM meter) and remember how many miles you get per tank.

Gas gage

It could be the fuel level sending unit is stuck or going out. It's in the gas tank.
