We had our power steering go very heavy on our grand voyager 1999 2.5D and were told that this was due to the pump. However our car also failed its MOT on the O/S track rod end, after buying in all the parts my husband fitted the track rod end first and hey presto we now have power steering and it was nothing to do with the pump!! So before spending god knows what on a pump, check your track rod ends first as these are only £30 to replace each instead of nearly £200 for the pump!

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help..

You are victim to the old one two. Fix one thing and another comes up. Your power steering pump is definitely bad and needs replacing. If you like I can walk you through it.

As far as not passing emissions, I would need more information as to what area you failed. I generally recommend a complete tune up and if you fairly we have to look at your catalytic converter or a engine ring problem. Give me as much information and I will help you.

My steering has suddenly became very heavy and hard to drive I have had new tyres fitted as I thought this would fix it I have been told it might need a belt changed is this the problem

Seems likely that your power steering is not working. Most likely cause is a broken or loose drive belt. Next possibility is low hydraulic fluid in the pump circuit. 3rd (and most expensive) cause could be a failed power steering pump.

Power steering diagnosis

Slipping belt or failing pump most likely. You might try draing the system and refilling including a Lucas type power steering fix additive.

What kind of power steering fluid goes into chrysler grand voyager

Use ATF Plus (Type 7176) for your particular transmission, NOT Dexron, Mercon, or generic automatic transmission fluid, Chrysler transmissions do not like any other kind and tend to fail quite quickly with the wrong fluid).

I have a 2002 chrysler voyager i hear a whinning from power steering when temperture is cold

please check your steering fluid level. or check its condition. when steering pumps start to get older whining noise can be heard in time. (especially in cold weather, it cause fluid gets thicker)this is due to wearing internal elements it is getting harder to pump fluid or hold pressure at a level.

learn to live with it until it fails(until it start to leak) and try not to turn your steering wheel to right end of its rotations.
