Set the crank to TDC using the timing marks, look for a mark on the cam pulley and a mark on the head, line those marks up and put on the belt

I assume you mean valve timing marks. See diagram below. I assume this is the 1.3 L4 engine

• The picture below is the crankshaft marks that need to be lined up before you remove the timing belt.

• Below is the intake and exhaust camshaft pulley marks.

• Below is an exploded diagram of the engine components in relation to the timing belt.

• Please not that this diagram is good for both 4X4 and 2X4 2.0 Engine (which is the only engine Kia Sportage had that year).

Sorry, can not fine a timing diagram, both cam's should read (up) at 45 deg., both timing mark's should meet at center, looking at motor, the right gear at timing mark st 9 o'clock, and left gear timing mark at 3 o'clock, the crank gear timing mark at about 1 o'clock, alidn mark on crank gear, with mark on housing, I hope this helps you, also the timing belt part number is Gates # T265.

When you say timing marks are you speaking of the timing belt marks, heres the diagram to line up marks to timing belt, hope this is what your looking for.

YOU NEED A REPAIR MANUAL.BECAUSE IT WILL SHOW YOU A DIAGRAM OF YOUR TIMING MARKS.AND HOW TO ADJUST TIMING BELT TENSION.ANY TIME YOU REPLACE A TIMING BELT ON ANY ENGINE.YOU NEED A TIMING BELT DIAGRAM.IF YOU DONT.YOUR ENGINE PISTONS WILL HIT THE VALVES CAUSE TERRIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE.

No it will NOT bend valves on this particular engine, if it goes out of time. I would replace BOTH the timing belt and the drive belt at the same time, since both are very inexpensive, even from the Ford dealer. Line up both timing marks on both the cam and crank sprockets in the 12 o'clock position. The marks are very easy to see, once you remove the timing belt cover. Hope this helps.
