To clear the oil change light, turn the key to on,and press the accelerator pedal three times real slow within 5 seconds, this will clear the light, now on the coolant light sensor, low coolant, remove the sensor on the passengers side of the radiator,it has a wire clip,so use a small pick, with a slight hook on it,the sensor is square, and flat,You will see,it needs to be cleaned out, most likely with air pressure, then put the clip back on the sensor, and it will snap back on,refill the radiator. If this was at all helpful, please rate,I have a 2000 montana myself,

You need to reset the oil change light. It has to be done evrytime you change the engine oilThe low coolant sensor is at fault if the coolant level is fine. It is screwed into the side tank of the raditor on the right side towards the top section of that tank

Have you had the water system pressure tested it is a very simple test but the tool is a little pricey for one off use, maybe go to a radiator service centre and ask them to do test.Radiator cap may no longer be able to hold its rated pressure. It would appear that you are only losing coolant while driving and not at idle.

it seems like the radiator of your car needs attention. check for coolant level in it, when its cold. if les add some coolant and then see if the problem persists.
--than there are chances of chocking in the coolant pipes, may be they not reached to engine..
--Check the chock,, that it is not turned on.
--May be sum loosing nut in engine.

If this is a 3800, Upper Intake Plenum or Lower intake gaskets are an inevitability. Head gaskets on these engines rarely go out! Seriously, don't get duped. I am doing the job on my grand prix right now. Google it for further explanation.

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.
If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

Hello,
when the car overheats, is there still water in the radiator?
If there is water in the radiator and the car overheats, then it means
there might be some dirt or blockage in the radiator or condenser.
When the car is on the motion, air passes through the front and assists
the fan to cool the engine. There are situation whereby air doesn't have
free flow because of blockage in the radiator and condenser. Dust and
debris can cause blockage. If this be the case, have your radiator
washed thoroughly and cleaned.
If there is no water in the radiator when the car overheats, then there
is a probably a leakage from the water pump. Or maybe your fan isn't
blowing properly. The fan might be blowing weak air.
The above are what could cause your engine to over heat.
So start the check from the radiator. Poor water into the radiator, wait
for some minutes, look under the car and observe if water is going to
leak. If there is a leak, it might be from the water pump or a leaking
hose.
If water from radiator has no leak, have your radiator washed and clean
the condenser has they might block air that is suppose to cool the
engine.
Also, make sure your fan is blowing properly or well enough to cool the engine.
Make sure you have the above checked thoroughly as they are the major causes of problems like this.
This overheating problem could lead to a burnt gasket and this can dry
the engine oil which will eventually knock the engine. So have this
problem fixed to prevent further damage that will cost you more money.
Lastly, remove the hose that connects the radiator to the engine, water
from the engine will come out. Pour water into the radiator, the water
will flow through the hose down to the ground. Do this severally. Now
connect the hose back to the engine, pour water into the radiator. Start
the engine, the water in the radiator will reduce, add more water till
radiator is full.
In summary, the major cause of over heating problem is from the
radiator, fan, water pump, blockage in the hose, and dirt in in/on the
condenser. These are area you need to concentrate on.
Also, bleed the system. Let me know if you don't know how to bleed for directions.....
I forgot to mention that the acceleration meter or engine meter on the
dash board shouldn't be more the 5. It should be below 5. If it is above
5, it can cause overheating. I hope you understand what I mean.....
Regards.
