2009 Pontiac G5 Manual Trans. my key will not turn off, but it will still turn forward to start. I had to remove a terminal from my battery to prevent it from dying.

it does not use antifreeze. you will need to buy Dexccol premixed 50/50 coolant. There is no universal coolant, use Dexcool only, it is red. you should never ever add water, only premixed coolant.
the premixed is good to -40 degrees F.
It sounds like your car battery is dead. If you connect another car as if you were going to jump-start your car - you ought to be able to remove the key - or crank the engine to start it.
You didn't include the year of your G5, so I don't know about recalls for it - as there seems to be one for the 2009 - linked below:
You need a new alternator , Check your amps coming out of the back of your altenator you will find it is not sending 14 volts when its running. The reason it starts and runs for a bit after it sits or charges is that the car is running on the battery if you keep this up you will not only need a new altenator but a new battery
There is a TSB on this issues if your having ignition lock issues.

the plunger is a small plastic rod sticking up,by the key.push it down, then turn key back and should pull out.take the load off the steering wheel.may be on hard lock
The pontiac G5 has a defect on some of them that need a new ignition switch. I just had to get mine replaced because mine did the exact same thing. If you remove the fuse it will not fix the problem!
Put it in park? really? i said it was a manual transmission.
