My 1986 Nissan 300zx non-turbo was running fine, then just stalled out suddenly and would not restart. I checked the plugs, wiring, fuel, all are OK. I installed a new coil, distributor cap and rotor. If I unplug the connector wire to injector #2, engine will start but idles on only 2 or 3 cylinders (very weak ignition in cylinders 2, 4 and 6). When car is idling, if I reconnect injector #2 again, engine will stall out and will not restart - unless I spray carb & choke cleaner into the air intake while cranking the starter. Then it will start. I checked the fuel pressure and it is 37-40 psi at idle. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?

It sounds like the number 2 injector is hung open.

It will dump fuel and cause all sorts off issues with the ECU.

You should ohm that injector and compare it with the others to see if it is wildly different. If so, change it out and retest.

Thanks for the quick response and the good suggestion. I will check all of the fuel injectors, especially #2 and will report back. Thank again! I appreciate it!

    Thank you, hoser20000! You're a genius!

We just checked the ohm readings at injectors 1, 2 and 3 (the others are buried deep under wiring and hoses...) and the reading at #2 was only 1/3 of the readings at #1 and #3 - so #2 injector is definitely failed.

Lots of work ahead to change it - and check the others - and I really appreciate your very professional help!

    Thanks again!

SOURCE: 1986 300zx turbo . when driving at 25 to 30 mph

sound like your waste gate is stuck open, you can unhook the small hose and apply 25 to 30 psi and check the movement of the waste gate,it only moves 0.40 of a in that not a whole lot, so just watch your movement of the rod, Thank you and I hope this helps you
