Instrument panel needles goes nuts back and forth then stop sometimes all at once, sometimes only one or two. all or most of the lights on instrument panel come on like ABS, BRAKE, BATTERY, ENGINE STAYS ON. The RPM needle was pegged and blocking the red plastic gear indicator and preventing me from shifting from park to drive, until I forced it and now the indicator is detached. The needles still go crazy, so can't tell how fast, how much gas, etc. brake fluid levels were low, everytime I added brake fluid the instrument panel would go crazy. now when I add brake fluid it leaks out in a matter of hours, no visible signs on ground. I brought it to the dealer, for recall Ford Motor Company (Ford) Recall No 09809. no brake fluid was in the reservoir and the tech determined there was no leaks. When I got it back I added brake fluid and drove about 10 miles and the brakes went to the floor. The recall information talks about a fire hazard, is this causing problems with brake fluid leaking on the wiring harnass?

Same thing happens with my 2000 windstar, if you could take the instrument panel out, and unscrew the the back of the instrument panel that covers the circuit board and clean the circuit with a brush, pure bristle brush is best 'coz they're stiff and gets all the dust that accumulated on the circuit board. some dust particles contain conductive material and shorts the circuit board and cause the trouble you have, ever since i did that no more trouble. and to those who are planning of replacing your instrument panel should do this first. it'll save you money. by the way i am a mechanic

I have the same exact issue, the instrument cluster is lit using LEDs, from the looks of it. I opened it up yesterday. It may be a connection problem OR a logic circuit issue since the lights come on and work fine once they do light up. I am going to continue to monitor this and if it fails continuously then pull it apart again to obtain the partno and check the connections. all you need to remove the panel are a nut driver, needle nose pliers, a putty knife to pry the end of the trim piece off (use caution and if available use a nylon tool to prevent scuffs) most of the dash panels on the left and lower must be loosened or removed to access the cluster.

For quirky things like that, I' look first at your ignition switch (common problem). Not the switch the key goes into, but it' located under the steering wheel column cover, on the bottom (black). Did your key get stuck in the ignition too at some point?

Need to know where the instrument panel cluster relay is located on a 1995 ford mustang V6 3.8?

If you are reffering to the illumination lights for the cluster than there is no relay, only a 5 amp. fuse. Generally it is green. However, often times the instrument lights stop operating because of an open circuit in the headlight switch. Try turning the dimmer knob back and forth a few times and watch for any lights on the cluster.

Instrument Panel goes on and off, as do headlights

You have to remove the panel to check onthe connections behind it, also check the headlights switch, they tend to burn out.
