Where is the thermostat housing located on this engine?

Hi.

1. Locate the thermostat housing. The housing can be found following the radiator hose toward the engine. The housing is located on the engine.
2. Remove the three screws that hold the thermostat housing.
3. Replace the thermostat.

Note. The thermostat spring goes toward the engine, the other side toward the radiator.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove splash shield.
5. Remove lower radiator hose clamp and lower radiator hose at thermostat housing.
6. Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat .

Thermostats almost always reside in a housing at the engine side end of the upper radiator hose. Drain coolant first, then loosen radiator hose to access thermostat housing. If you can't find the housing, consult your vehicle service manual for location.

Loosen the bolts that hold down the thermostat housing. Remove the housing to reveal the thermostat.

Note the location and orientation of thermostat relative to the engine. Remove thermostat.

Use a scraper to remove old gasket material from all mounting surfaces.

Place new gasket on housing. Use a small amount of grease or adhesive to hold it in place during reassembly.

Make sure new thermostat is oriented properly and reinstall the housing.

Reconnect all hoses. Close radiator petcock. Refill cooling system with recommended 50/50 blend of water and coolant. Run engine and heater to purge air from cooling system. Recheck the coolant level once engine is cool.

4. Install two housing-to-timing chain cover bolts. Tighten bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm) torque.
5. Install lower radiator hose on thermostat housing.
6. Install splash shield.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Fill cooling system.
9. Connect negative battery cable to battery.
10. Start and warm the engine. Check for leaks.

Thermostat - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNING Most cooling system hoses use "constant tension" hose clamps. When removing or installing, use a tool designed for servicing this type of clamp. The clamps are stamped with a letter or number on the tongue. If replacement is necessary, use only an OEM clamp with a matching ID.
CAUTION Always wear safety glasses when servicing contact tension clamps.

1. Locate the thermostat. This is located in a housing on the engine side of the upper radiator hose for all engines except the 4.7L. On the 4.7L engine, the thermostat is located on the engine side of the lower radiator hose.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable (both batteries on diesels).
3. Drain the engine coolant from the block until the level is below the thermostat.
4. On V-10 engines, remove the support rod.
5. On most V-6 and V-8 models, the alternator must be removed or repositioned for access to the thermostat housing.
6. Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
7. Disconnect any sensors fitted to the thermostat housing.
8. Remove the retaining bolts from the thermostat housing. Note the lengths and location of each bolt for ease of installation.
9. Remove the thermostat housing, thermostat, and gasket, if fitted.
10. Note the relative positions of all components, especially gaskets and seals. Note the orientation of the thermostat in the housing.
    

To install:

1. Be sure the new thermostat is the correct one for your engine.
2. On V-10 engines, note that there is a rubber lip-type seal with a metal shoulder pressed into the intake manifold beneath the thermostat. The thermostat should fit snugly in the seal.
3. Clean the gasket or seal mating surfaces.
4. Paper gaskets must be replaced.
5. Install the thermostat, gasket or seals.
6. Install the thermostat housing on the engine.

NOTE The thermostat housing may have the word FRONT on it (3.9L, 5.2L, 5.9L); this goes towards the front of the vehicle.

1. Be sure all components are properly seated before tightening.
2. Tighten the housing bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). Fasteners should be tightened evenly to avoid leaks or damage.
3. Reinstall the radiator hose onto the housing.
   

NOTE Ensure that you have secured the system drain plug(s) before refilling with coolant.

1. Refill the radiator with a proper coolant mixture.
2. Connect the negative battery cable(s).
3. Start the engine and bleed the cooling system. Refer to "GENERAL INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE."
4. Ensure that the thermostat is operational (by checking the upper radiator hose for warmth), and that there are no leaks.

Your thermostat is located under a metal housing on the top of the engine. The upper radiator hose connects to this housing. To change the thermostat you basically need to drain the radiator after your engine is cold, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine, and remove the bolts from the small housing. replace the thermostat, and clean the surfaces on both sides and replace the gasket too. reinstall the housing, attach the hose, and refill the radiator. start the engine, warm it up and check for leaks, then re check the coolant level after the engine cools off again

It is located on thetop front of the engine. Look for a radiator hose running to the engine block. You will see a housing which the hose connects to. It will look similar to this. Remove the 3 bolts and lift the housing and you will find the thermostat.

If it's a chrysler engine the thermostat is located just below radiator cap. If mitsubishi diamond star engine it's located on the cylinder head , beside the air cleaner housing

Thermostat is located on 4.0L I-6 on front cylinder head. The 3.7L V-6 thermostat is located where the lower radiator hose attaches to engine. The 4.7L V-8 thermostat is located where the lower radiator hose attaches to engine. The 5.7L V-8 thermostat is located where the upper radiator hose attaches to engine. The 3.9L V-6 and 5.9L V-8 Thermostat is located on front top of intake manfold (between alternator and ac compressor)
