My 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible will not get out of park. I had it towed to the dealer where I was told I had a bad shifter assembly and it would cost $349.52 to repair. Is that a fair price?

Seems pretty fair; I would have thought more like $700. There is a fair amount of labor involved.

Testimonial: "Thank you. As a woman, sometimes you don't know if you're getting ripped off or not. Another person told me it was only a defective level in the manual override and that it was a very minimal cost. That's why I was surprised at the estimate, but now that Brian told me it was labor-intensive, I understand."

The gearbox locked up

This is a known problem with the Sebring - I just had the same problem with mine. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it. If you take the oval ring off of the gear shifter there will be a pink lever on the left, you need to take a pair of plyers and manual move this lever to override the gear box, this will allow you to take it out of park and get it to the dealer so it can be fixed. Good luck!

Can't shift out of park

Shifter was broken. Still under warranty, so dealer replaced. Works fine. According to a dealer service person trying to assist this is not an uncommon problem with Chrysler/Dodge products.

I can't get my car to shift out of park. Any ideas?

check the switch on the brake pedal that keeps the shifter from moving unless you press the brake.

shift lock switch. this switch is usually connected to a little box on the brake pedal. Look about half way up the pedal from the foot pad and make sure the wires are still intact.

My Chrysler Sebring won't shift out of park

there is a spring on the left side of the shifter which has probably broken off it a common problem with a no cost fix as long you can find the spring. the spring attachs to the black case of the shifter and the other end goes to a pink plastic pivot to the interlock. drill a small hole in the pink upper pivot to reattach the spring. your spring would have shot off toward the back of the car inside the console check at the carpet's edge.the spring has a green protective band and is about an inch long ---to get the console out 4-- 10mm bolts at rear inside the back console compartment and 2--10mm bolts behind the a/c controls. the a/c control bezel and the upper bezel do not have screws but push in place--top bezel pulls straight out while the lower has to be pulled down and out to remove

Sebring wont get out of park

Newer cars REQUIRE you to press on the brake to get into gear. If the switch at the brake pedal is not working, or the solenoid at the gearshift is not working. The shifter is stuck. You MUST have a little slot by the shifter covered with a small cover. Check your manual, a key in that slot releases the shifter should you have the above problem or the battery is dead and no power to that release solenoid.
