I have the code p0340 come up on my 2000 dodge intrepid, the check engine light comes on, and my car sometimes will take a few tries to start, does that sound like the camshaft sensor? how positive are you if it is?
It might be the cam shaft sensor it might be the crank shaft sensor the best thing to do is replace them bolth. but it does sound like it may be either one because if one goes out the other will still work but when starting the car it will take longer for it to read from either or the one sensor that is still working because they work together to tell the system to deliver the gas. im pretty positive that it is either the cam or crank shaft sensor
I recently had the same problem. P0340 code came up, replaced cam shaft sensor, then P0340 still came up. Hard starting the car at times always brought the engine light on the P0340. I also checked the spark plugs and the gaps were off and they looked pretty worn. The car had 80,000 miles and I was waiting for the plugs to be replaced at 100K miles. It appears this solved my problem, I am hoping.

It could be a fuel filter . turn the key wait until the battery reads full then start. If it starts, on the first try, it's a fuel filter. The dodge has a fuel pressure valve built in it. So, no fuel is in the fuel rail to start the motor and a couple of tries to start will throw a code. Something new to try.
