406 instrument panel fuel gauge, rave counter, mileage not working only temp gauge works what may i work on

If the tail lights, low fuel light, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge are not working, there could be several possible causes:

There should be an instrument panel fuse in the fuse box located inside the car. Check the fuse and replace in needed.

by removing the battery you have initiated the immobiliser system . try using a scanner To reset the system and the immobiliser.

sounds like you may have a instrument cluster panel problem and will have to go to a shop that can fix it. its possible that there is a contact problem with the cluster to body connection.

There are two possible candidates here, both of which you claim to have "checked" as good. They are the ECT (Coolant Sensor) or the thermostat. As the gauge works "occasionally and when it does fuel mileage is much improved", I would take the cheap route and change the T-stat and see what happens. If the thermostat is intermittent sticking in a wide open condition, this will result in the inability of the engine to regulate its coolant temperature. Engines run more efficiently at higher block temps because it aids in the combustion process. Many DIYers often change out 180 degree thermostats for 195 degree ones because they see marked improvement in power and fuel mileage. The ECT samples the temperature of the coolant and sends a signal to the PCM. The PCM uses that to determine rate of fuel delivery and also sends the signal to the temperature gauge on the instrument panel. A cooler engine needs more fuel, thus the decrease in gas mileage. You don't mention anything about the vehicle running rough, so I'm assuming that the ECT has it right. If the ECT were faulty and the engine were warmer than the ECT says, you would probably start having running issues since the engine would be running too rich, and that could possible even set error codes and the Check Engine Light.

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

mine is doing the same thing did you ever find a solution

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task).This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

lift the carpet at o/s/f {drivers front footwell} there is two multiblock connecters guarenteed tobe sodden with water disconnect connectors& dry with a hair dryer on low setting hopefully the pins are not corroded reconnect connectors this is aknown fault i have worked with peugeot&citroen for 24 years kind regards alastair
