sounds like the check valve in the pump is letting the fuel drain back try just cycling key a few times before starting this will prime pump and lines. if cranks up this is most likely cause a fuel pressure gauge will confirm
i replaced the fuel pump on my chevy avalanche last year there is really only one way to replace it ,you have to take the braces down that holds the fuel tank up, unhook fuel lines, and rubber filler hoses, drop the gas tank to be able to get to the fuel pump. i bought a book at auto parts store that takes you step by step on how to do it.
if no codes check fuses and connections 4 fuel pump , possible fuel pump going, turn on and listen for hum from tank if comes on than check fuel pressure if low or none fuel pump defective
fuel pump relay on the engine side fire wall passenger side. replace that and check fuses. I had the same issue and this fixed it. the ground for the pump is also located on the frame rail by the gas tank. make shure it didnt come loose
Gm has a real problem with fuel tank sending units. That is what is wrong. You need a fuel tank sending unit. You can only get them aftermarket with the whole fuel pump module, but you can buy them seperate if you buy it from the dealer.
