The check engine icon keeps coming on. When I tighten the fuel cap it goes off eventually. Lately it keeps coming on regularly but I also notice the cap loosens even if I shut it til it clicks after refueling. Should I try a new gas cap? Will the dealer charge me a fortune to have the engine checked???

Yes, buy a new cap. If the light comes on again, just have the computer scanned and then post the trouble codes here. If you are in the US, you can get a free scan at your local parts store.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light Comes on Intermittently

The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.

SOURCE: Check Gas Cap warning light

Replace the cap - it's only about 10 bucks at AutoZone. They told me the same thing about taking time to clear. I disconnected my battery for 10 minutes and it went off. Make sure you have the radio code as it will need to be reset after disconnecting the battery. It should have come with the car but the dealer can provide it.

SOURCE: Check engine light came on. Code P1456.

Did you change the gas cap with a Honda gas cap? Tighten it at least three clicks?
Also, Honda recommends that you never top off the tank when getting gas (only go to the click-off of the pump; otherwise you can get back flow into the system that will cause the code).
Tightening or replacing the cap will not immediately cause the light to go off; it can take up to three days of driving for the light to reset.
To check if your readiness codes (emission system) are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
You can, of course, try resetting your engine light to see if it will come back on (which it probably will). I believe the procedure is:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

Hope this helps you.

2006 lexus es330 track off VSC plus the engine light is on

The ES330 has a notoriously bad fuel cap problem. Notice that if you tighten the cap two clicks it will come off with one finger. They apparently have a different cap not just a new cap. It will cause the Check Eng light to come on but apparently may also affect the VSC because it affects engine performance. When the VSC light comes on it will also shut down Trac Control and turn on the light. Replace the fuel cap! Cheap first fix. If you need to clear codes when you get the cap at Autozone they'll scan it and clear codes.

Fix engine light

Not likely.... But as you just put fuel injector in make sure your fuel cap is tight cause if its not the computer will detect a evaporation leak in the gas tank. So tighten the gas cap and drive the car for a few days & see if the engine light goes off .. If not get the computer scanner to see what's going on

Engine code po455

Check this info about P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Check it and keep us updated.

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

Truck stalls and check engine light comes on this happens at no certaint time. when the light goes off it starts. sometimes it shuts down while driving and starts back on its own.

is this a diesel or a gas job? has it been tune up lately? if its a diesel I recommend pulling apart the exhaust backpressure sensor on the front of the engine which screws into a tube which goes to your RH exhaust manifold. If its full of carbon and the tube is plugged up, that will cause it to stall erratically and eventually when fully plugged off, it stalls or may not even starts consistently.

Check engine light

Sorry your going to have to change the gas cap. You can try  spraying WD-40 to the rubber seal on the gas cap to get you some more months out of it, the seals get hard and don't seal any more. Good luck

Engine Light/tighten fuel cap

Good Day,

Sounds like your fuel cap needs to be replaced, there is a rubber seal in there to which keeps fuel pressure up, when this seal goes bad you get a drop in pressure and your engine light will come on. Replace the cap with a new one. As far as your lighter ports that is probably due to a blown fuse and unrelated to the fuel cap issue.

Hope this helps
