Some vehicles have a warning light when the barkes need replacing. the brake light staying on could be this or the sensor for the parking brake may be bad.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 xterra and my brake lights does not

At the top of the brake pedal arm there is a switch. This is the brake light switch. Most of the time they get out of adjustment. So, get on your back and look up, under the dash, above the brake pedal arm and you should see the stop. The stop is actually the switch. When the brake is not applied this is what the brake pedal arm rests against. The pivot point is much higher in the dash. So, follow the pivot point down and you should see the switch. Brake lights do not shut off nissan xterra 2001

Brake light switch is either bad OR the the stop light switch STOP (in front of switch) has broken and gone. You might have seen plastic pieces on the floor wondering where it came. Get a mirror and look at the switches and in front. If there are open holes in front of the switches and NOT making contact that is why your brake lights are on! Why this is made like this is beyond me, but stupid design.

2001 Nissan Xterria, the brake lights is on when the vehicle is off

Look under the driver's side dash board, locate the brake pedal and follow it upwards till you find the brake switch. It is either disconnected or damaged. Check that the wires are intact.

My 2001 Nissan Xterra's brake fluid ran out. Should I bleed the brakes or just refill it? I may need to get new brake pads but am not sure why else it would be out of brake fluid. Thanks

brake fluid will get lower in the reserve as your brake pads wear. if it is really low u should probably take it in to have the pads changed.

Good Morning. My ABS light comes on intermittently in my 2001 Nissan Xterra SE model. The light will stay on until I turn the car off, but when I start it back up later the light is off. For the light...

a lot of times the sensors on each wheel become covered with brake dust if you remove the wheels and clean the sensor with brake cleaner this will solve the problem but keep in mind it may happen again when the brake dust gets on the sensor again
