My car stops running while going down the road. it will restart after a few minutes. i suspect it is the pass key security. is there an easy way to bypass the system?

Peugeot 407 problems faults

run the fault codes to find the sensor that is generating the problem. I suspect that it may be in the canister system or a faulty venting/purge valve that is affecting the venting for the tank.

if light on dash is on, then it sounds like a bad crank sensor. shuts off while driving down road, then will not start for about 15 minutes. heres more causes:: car shuts off when tempurature gets to normal-- low coolant, failing coolant tempurature sensor, air in water pump, failed radiator fan, it takes 10 to 15 minutes for a car to warm up. check or replace coolant temp. sensor if above is ok. have a good day !

Put new alternator and battery in 1995 Buick Lesabre with key pass will turn over and run afew seconds but wont stay running

actually a pretty easy fix. The pass key computer lost its programming. Put the key in and leave it on with the security light flashing. Just turn off all your accessories and make sure battery is pretty good charge. Anyway after you leave the key on for ten minutes the security light will come on steady so turn key off and right back on and start car. If security light still starts blinking and car stalls then do it again. It will usually work the first time but can take a few times to get it right.

In my 2000 chevy camaro my security light is on and my car wont start what process do i need to do to get it running?

Your vehicle is equipped with the PASS-Key II (Personalized Automotive Security System) theft-deterrent system.
PASS-Key II is a passive theft-deterrent system. It works when you insert or remove the key from the ignition.
PASS-Key II uses a resistor pellet in the ignition key that matches a decoder in your vehicle. When the PASS-Key II system senses that someone is using the wrong key, it shuts down the vehicle's starter and fuel systems. For about three minutes, the starter won't
work and fuel won't go to the engine. If someone tries to start your vehicle again or uses another key during this time, the vehicle will not start. This discourages someone from randomly trying different keys with different resistor pellets in an attempt to make a match.

The ignition key must be clean and dry before it's inserted in the ignition or the engine may not start. If the engine does not start and the SECURITY light stays on when you try to start the vehicle, the key may be dirty or wet. Turn the ignition off.

Clean and dry the key. Wait about three minutes and try again. The SECURITY light may remain on during this time. If the starter still won't work, and the key appears to be clean and dry, wait about three minutes and try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuses (see "Fuses and Circuit Breakers" in the Index). If the starter won't work with the other key, your vehicle needs service. If your vehicle does start, the first ignition key may be faulty. See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II.

If you accidentally use a key that has a damaged or missing resistor pellet, the starter won't work. The SECURITY light will flash. But you don't have to wait three minutes before trying another ignition key.

See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II to have a new key made.

If you're ever driving and the SECURITY light comes on and stays on, you will be able to restart your engine if you turn it off. Your PASS-Key II system, however, is not working properly and must be serviced by your dealer. Your vehicle is not protected by the PASS-Key II system. If you lose or damage a PASS-Key II ignition key, see your dealer or a locksmith who can service PASS-Key II to have a new key made. In an emergency, call the Chevrolet Roadside Assistance Center at 1-800-CHEV-USA or 1-800-243-8872 (In Canada call 1-800-268-6800).

On our 2005 Grand Prix, the key is stuck in ignition, after battery ran down, was recharged, now won't start. I suspect fuel relay needs reset, where is it? Car would run before battery ran down. I need to...

Hello! It sounds like you're having a fairly common issue, and one that you should be able to remedy - on your own; in about 30 minutes! :)

First - I'm not sure if you're having the problem where your key is not only stuck, but also won't turn...if so, then follow these steps to be able to turn the key. If you can turn the key, ignore these steps. :)
- On the bottom of the steering wheel - you will see a small, circular cap - using a small flat blad screwdriver, pry that cap off.
- Inside the hole there is a switch that you need to push up on with the screwdriver, and while doing so - you will then be able to turn the key.

Now - once you have done this - you need to reset or "relearn" the security system. Here's how:

1.) Turn the key to the "ON" position, then attempt to start. Car will not start.
2.) On your instrument cluster, you should now see the security light flashing. Leave the car on, and wait approximately ten minutes or until that security light stops flashing. (NOTE: if it doesn't stop flashing after about 10 minutes, turn the key to "OFF", disconnect the battery cables for 10 minutes, reconnect, and restart procedure at Step 1)
3.) Turn ignition to off. Wait five seconds.
4.) Repeat steps 1-3 two more times, for a total of 30 minutes.
5.) The PCM is now ready to learn the security system2.gif on the next crank. Turn the car to off, then attempt to start. Your car should start at this time. I would then start the car with all other keys that you have for that vehicle to ensure that they are all working.

Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for using FixYa!

2001 Oldsmobile Alero, Passlock 2

There have been alot of this type problem you describe. That body style of GM car has had meny ignition issues with the PASSLOCK 2 system. The system for some reason thought it was being stolen, and shut down. The security light might not blink or come on at all in some cases. It should but may not. (if there are issues with the BCM (Body Control Module) or ECM (engine Control Module) The Chime you heard may have been a security reset indicator notice. Thlling you that the Security System incountered a problem, and was ready again.

Car ran fine night before...next morning would not start. Replaced fuel pump, filter and switched relay but still had no luck. What else should we do?

CHECK TO SEE IF SECURITY LIGHT IS STAYING ON WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO RUN POSITION(NOT START) NORMAL OPERATION IS SECURITY/ANTI THEFT LIGHT ON FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN SHOULD GO OFF. IF ITS STAYING ON VEHICLE IS IN THEFT MODE WHICH WILL DISABLE THE FUEL INJECTORS BECAUSE CAR THINKS ITS GETTING STOLEN. MOST LIKELY CAUSE FOR THIS IS PASSLOCK SYSTEM(SENSOR IS LOCATED IN STEERING COLUMN)
