Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Mazda Protege 2.0 LX?

The 2003 Mazda Protege LX does not have an inline fuel filter. Instead, it has a "strainer" or a "screen" that looks like a nylon mesh "sock". This strainer is connected to the fuel pump, which is located in the gas tank. The fuel filter is always found between the fuel tank and the engine, and for most vehicles, it is located inside the top of the fuel tank, right where it connects with the fuel line .

There really isn't much to a tune up anymore. Plugs, wires, and filters are about all that can be considered a tune up, but to do a vehicle service I would check the belts, hoses, tie rod ends, ball joints, all fluids, air filter, oil change, fuel filter, exhaust, and plugs & wires.

REPLACE FUEL FILTER LOCATED UNDER HOOD BELOW AIR FILTER HOUSING FUEL FILTER HELD IN PLACE BY A BRACKET.

First look under the hood for any vacuume leaks. If you don't find any get it to a trans shop you trust before you burn the clutch pac. It's probably a bad oring in one of the clutch packs. It wont be cheap that's why I say one you can trust.

go to rockauto.com and look up fuel filter for your application. It shows an intank fuel filter.

It is located on the top rear of the engine, pictured below..

on the 2.0L it is all the way in the back of the engine just over the axle
