It could, once the engine is running it then keeps the fuelpump running with the oil preasure switch and if the oil preasure drops it can stop the pump, but should start back up unless theres a bad fuelpump relay,

1999 Chevy Camaro 3.8 liter/engine knocking oil pressure very low

Knocking is a bad sign. You may have worn crank bearings that are causing loss of pressure.

Why would the oil light stay on?

That depends on the type of oil warning light being displayed. There are 2 types of warning lights

1. Low oil pressure light which all cars have
2. low oil level light which some cars have.

Low OIL PRESSURE warning means the oil pressure is below minimum and when this happens there will be insufficient lubrication of many engine parts because sufficient oil cannot get to all parts of the engine it is required to lubricate. Until the cause is identified and rectified the warning light will remain. If you run your engine with low oil pressure you will cause expensive damage to internal engine components.

Low OIL LEVEL warning means the oil in the sump has dropped to a dangerously low level (which may be due to an oil leak or abnormal oil consumption by the engine.) This warning means the oil level needs to be topped up and the warning will stay displayed until you top up the oil. Running the engine with low oil will cause expensive engine damage.
Since it is a 2 minute job, Oil levels should be checked fortnightly as a minimum, together with radiator coolant and power steering fluid levels, if you run the car most days each week as most people do.

It is possible for a warning light to remain displayed when the cause has been dealt with because there is a problem with the sender unit. However it needs to be established with alternative checks that the problem has been fixed before investigating if there is a problem with the warning light itself.

Oil overfilling

It should be fine, but adjust the level as soon as you can, using a pump around the inspection stick or just take it to the mech. Overfilling might cause the crankshaft to come in contact with the oil, mixing it with air like a big blender. This can cause the oil pump to not be able to pump the air-mixed oil, causing low oil pressure and problems related to this. As long as you did not get a low oil pressure warning it should be fine, but get it sorted out. Good luck :)

I have a 1995 chevy caprice classic and the low level light for the radiator stays on also the temp meter on the dash stays beyond the cold I've flushed it best i can and refilled it after changin

Find your low level sensor on the overflow bottle. Sometimes they come embedded and molded into the bottle and you just change the overflow bottle, sensor and all. Should be same as most Caprices.

The hoses that are "cut" are silicone and better quality if properly cut. They withstand more heat, but Molded hoses have advantages too.

What I do not see here is any mention of a Thermostat. Lack of one would explain low temp readings. Also if you saying "Beyond the cold" is below the cold mark, then the water temp sensor(sends info to dash) may not work or the dash gauge is broke. When the car engine runs, it should move higher than cold.

You will need proper operating temperature for all the engine controls to work normally and will get better gas mileage.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure
