The mode doors in the dash are powered by engine vacuum, if vacuum is missing the default setting is the defrost vent. Look under the hood near the firewall for a disconnected vacuum line.

1999 durango vent control switch will not let AC blow threw vents only defrost

Usually this is a problem with the blend doors under the dash. You either have a vac leak, a dead motor, or a faulty door.
The control opens and closes the doors to direct air thru the heater core and evaporator core along with directing air thru the vents.
When a problem occurs, the default position is the defrost vents to make sure the windshield remains clear.
You can do an internet search for "repair durango blend door" for more info.

2005 Explorer, control switch will not allow fan to blow to any vents except defrost. Air blows cold in ac mode but only to windshield. Rear air control seems okay.

This sounds like a vacuum leak. When there is a vacuum leak it defaults to defrost as a safety precaution. You will have to track down where the leak is and repair it.

Look for vac hoses damaged or dislodged. System is designed to fail in defrost mode.

2000 chevy astro cargo van. the heat registers on the gage but little comes out and only out defrost. thermostat????

If it is blowing hot air out of the defroster and not out of the heater vents then the door that directs the heat from the defroster isn't working properly it is blocking the heat from going to the heater vents. Also check the cold air door. It sounds like it isn't closing all the way to shut off the cold air and not letting the hot air pass.

Don't get any air from vents on 1998 Chevrolet astro van. Just replaced clutch fan. Air cond. works fine and fan works fine. Is something not connected?

SOUNDS LIKE THE AC CONTROL HAS LOST VACUUM FROM THE ENGINE, YOU MAY HAVE KNOCKED A HOSE OFF WHILE CHANGING THE FAN CLUTCH, IS THE AIR COMING OUT THE DEFROST VENTS BY CHANCE?

Air only blows out on windshield & floor when

THERE IS A VACUUM LINE THAT GOES FROM THE LEFT FRONT OF THE ENGINE TO THE VACUUM CHECK VALVE NEAR THE ACCUMULATOR. IF THAT LINE IS BROKEN THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE IS NO HVAC MODE SWITCHING.

AC blows through defrost and floor vents instead of ac vents

You have a vacuum leak in the system that controls the vent doors. First check for cracks at the vacuum reservoir, then check the various vacuum hoses and vacuum motors for a leak.

The mode control switch is either defective or the switch has no vacuum, the motors that send the air to different outlets are powered by vacuum.
