Just had a new fuel pump installed in 2002 Chevy Malibu. Worked great for about a week and then the fuel gauge started reading "empty" when the car has a full tank of gas. What happened?

This is caused by a defective fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank. To repair the problem you must remove the fuel tank from the car and replace the fuel pump module which is part of the fuel level sensor.

Need to replace the sensor inside the gas tank. I have a 2008 Malibu with the same problem. It was a faulty fuel gauge sensor.
